We call it Calpol in the UK and it does work for my son to reduce fever ect but when we used to use it for fever (he used to have febrile convulsions) we used to say that he got the "Calpol highs" about 2 hrs afterwards and he used to literally act as though he was high on drugs.

Our son can not take it if it is "red". You give him red dye...HE GOES HOME WITH YOU!!

Now this is interesting...so are you saying only dye free works? What does the red do? Does he react the same way with anything including red dye?

i had those kind of issues with allegra for my daughter. she was wired for the whole night on that stuff. i would be crying at 2 am just wanting some sleep.

I have an article that was printed in our local newspaper about Red Dye & it's effects. Give me some time to relocate it. We are off AGAIN today to Cincinnati Childrens.

As soon as I get through today, I will post the article with # information.

Hi, Donelle...thanks for posting. I did hear the news with regard to red dye, and other artificial colors as well. I'm interested in how your child reacts...It could be that it was what affected my son as well.

Our dd can take only one dose of benedryl..even the second 24 hours later will hyper her up. It has to be at least 3 or 4 days.

Even the one dose only works half as far as making her tired

Interesting...again my doc said we could do it in small doses only when my little man has night time panic episodes (we haven't had ONE this week , but all last week...weird. Anyway thank you so much for all this info. I think Melatonin is what we are going to try.........natural, and I hear it works for most people.
