North Fulton Autism Support Group Meeting Date: Sunday May 6, 2012 Time: 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM Topic:Function Based Interventions for Solving Problem Behaviors In this presentation, Shilpa Kooken will focus on the use of functional behavior assessments to derive and implement appropriate strategies. These function-based strategies will allow parents to increase the likelihood of problem behaviorsbeing reduced. This presentation will teach parents each step required to achieve problem behavior reduction. Parents will be taught to determine and prioritize the behaviors, and once the behaviors have been prioritized, tools for determining the functionof the behavior will be taught. This will allow the parent to utilize proactive and reactive strategies with which they will be able to reduce the problem behaviors. Speaker: Shilpa Kooken, BCBA Shilpa Kooken is a board certified behavior analyst with 10 years of experience with children and adults with developmental disabilities, including autism. She received a master’s degree in educational psychology from Georgia State Universityand completed her internship at Marcus Autism Center. Shilpa spent two years as the Clinical Director at an Atlanta-based school for children with Autism. She now works in a residential setting, Laurel Heights Hospital, helping students with intense behaviorneeds while also consulting for families, in-home, with Integrated Behavioral Solutions. When not directly working with children, Shilpa serves on the Georgia Association for Behavioral Analysis board and is a co-founder for Compass Solutions for Autism, adata collection company. Starting in June, Shilpa will join the Behavior Program Review Committee for the Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities.
