Guest guest
That's good to know, Kim. Thanks. A co-worker's husband is on Armour and due for a refill. Guest guest
Betsy, I just spoke to the pharmacy at HEB Plus on Potranco, and they have 1 bottle of Armour 60's, and she said that will go fast, and she has no idea when they'll get more. I finally just had mine called in to Women's International and ordered 3 mos...they only had 60's, so I split one every other day. Whoever said the new ones don't split well is right - they just crumble. I'm not feeling so great, but have been dealing with additional stress at work and on the home-front, so it would probably not be a fair assessment if I blamed it on the new Armour yet. Guest guest
I just called Caremark. They have no Armour Thyroid at all, no NatureThroid. All they have is the generic from Major, which I believe was manufactured by TimeCap labs. Womens International has Armour only in the larger doses: 120, 180, 240 and 300 mg. But they have NatureThroid and Westhroid in all doses. >> I saw the PA at my doctor's office on Friday and she faxed 3 scripts to Caremark, one of which was for 1-grain Armour pills.> > Today Caremark cancelled the script. When I called they said that all they have available is 2-grain pills, and they can't guarantee for how long they will have those (they had 1-grain pills last week; now they're gone).> > I called the doc's office and someone will get back to me about this. Part of the problem is that I'm not techinically due for a refill yet, so even if they receive a script for 2-grain pills and have them on hand, they may not fill the script. And who knows what, if anything, they'll have on hand on 9/1?> > I asked about Nature-Throid; they don't seem to have that either.> > The pharmacist suggested Synthroid & Cytomel. <barf>> > I'm tempted to get a 30-day script and take it around town, and pay without insurance if I have to. This is getting crazy!!> > Oh, yeah, I've been on the new pills for a couple of weeks, and I don't think I'm doing well with them. My temp in the doctor's office was < 98, and in the mornings it's running 97 - 97.8 (not basal; shortly after I get up). I'll be interested to see what the labs say.>

Guest guest
I called the doctor's office on Tuesday after Caremark cancelled my prescription. They said someone would call me back. Since I didn't hear from them, I called again today. They're switching everyone to Synthroid until Armour comes back in stock. Thank goodness I've got enough Armour to last until I see her next month. Synthroid, my foot! > > > I just called Caremark. They have no Armour Thyroid at all, no > NatureThroid. Guest guest
Armour has a hotline that you can call and listen to an updated recorded message regarding the shortage. I just called the number and it was updated on 8/13/2009, and says that one of the factors of the shortage was insufficient quantity of dessicated thyroid hormone and they are working with their manufacturers to return to normal supply levels. The recording also said that they cannot give a definitive date that all doses will be in stock, and the only doses available from Forest are 2, 4, and 5 grain. http://www.armourthyroid.com/ 1- - Availability Hotline I am getting very nervous because Express Scripts was out until mid-August, and I just checked the website and it now says mid-September for 1/2 and 1 grain. Highly doubt Walgreens and Womens International will have any, and we don't want to switch. - > > > > > > I just called Caremark. They have no Armour Thyroid at all, no > > NatureThroid. Guest guest
Well, here we go! According to Shomon.... Nature-Throid is now on backorder because of the Thyroid USP powder shortage. http://thyroid.about.com/b/2009/08/17/nature-throid-backorder-thyroid.htm http://thyroid.about.com/b/2009/08/17/armour-thyroid-backorde.htm What on earth is going on? What are we going to do? If the Thyroid USP powder is on backorder, that means compounding pharmacies won't be able to get it and we'll be without any natural thyroid options. - > > > > > > > > > I just called Caremark. Guest guest
Well, this is really depressing. I guess I'll call my doc's office tomorrow and see if I can increase my dosage of my cr*p Armour to try to make up for the problem. At least I had 90 days worth of that. I can get through another couple of months I guess if a higher dose will work. Has anyone else out there tried to increase their dosage of the new Armour to make up for the problem, and did you have any luck? I guess the real problem is finding out why the basic ingredient is in low supply. Maybe a huge number of folks ordered 90 days worth the last time and wiped it all out. Thanks for the alert . Guest guest
I am Googling to no avail regarding the Thyroid USP shortage. Was it made worse by the swine flu? Did they slaughter a bunch of pigs just to prevent the flu from spreading, thus causing a shortage? I cannot find anything. Has the economy shut down some of the farms and/or slaughterhouses that produce the powder? Maybe someone else will have luck with this. - > > > > Well, here we go! According to Shomon.... Guest guest
I'm guessing that it's probably more the result of panic ordering of larger quantities over the last 6 months that wiped the stock out. I guess we'll just have to wait to see if any more news is forthcoming. There is is only one supplier of the powder/active ingredient. I guess they pull from different farms/slaughterhouses. That is really lousy planning! Interesting that the gestation period for swine is just over 3 months. The amount of backorder time they are estimating. Anyone for investing in a pig farm with neighboring processing plant? > > I am Googling to no avail regarding the Thyroid USP shortage. Was it made worse by the swine flu? Guest guest
I called in my Armour refill to Express Scripts last night because I could order a refill as of 8/16. They cancelled my order today because Armour is " a non-FDA regulated drug, and I need to pick an alternative. " I asked to speak to a pharmacist, and he said that the customer service people have no clue what they are talking about. He said there is a shortage of Thyroid USP, but he says that he also thinks a lot of problem is that the FDA might be requiring Forest to perform their own studies to prove that Armour is not harmful. The FDA is becoming more strict on all drugs, even if they were grandfathered in. I'm not sure how much creditibility this has, but I have heard this on several occasions. Who knows. I emailed American Laboratories, which is the only Thyroid USP supplier in the US. If they don't respond, I will be calling them. Email is just easier for me while I'm at work. They all think I'm crazy enough.... I will really raise some eyebrows when I call the supplier. - > > > > I am Googling to no avail regarding the Thyroid USP shortage. Guest guest
Caremark switched my Armour to something with " 021 " on it. Other than that, the pills look just like the 1/2 grain tablets I got last time. On the bottle it says, where it should say " manufactured by Forest, " it says " manufactured by major pharmacy. " Anybody know what these are? Marti
Guest guest
Marti.. I just googled Thyroid and 021.. Here's what I got: http://www.drugs.com/imprints/021-7409.html Major Pharmaceuticals make a generic dessicated thyroid med. Looks like they also supply to veterinarians.. Guest guest
A different brand of dessicated thyroid, probably the only one currently being produced. Please take them and report back to us. They may be our final lifeline until Forest and RLC get back on track. >> Caremark switched my Armour to something with "021" on it.
