Guest guest
I peel garlic with a little section of thin rubber tubing, about an inch in diameter. Put the clove of garlic inside the tube and roll it back and forth on the table with your palm. The peel comes right off. Really low-tech. > > WOW!!! I need one. Guest guest
Yeah, I think it's cool. I do have one of those mini choppers that I have to get out of somewhere, plug it in, chop the garlic, unplug it, clean the blades and bowl, put it back in the closet. That thing is good for stuff but I use fresh garlic every day. So for me, this is cool. I guess I'll find other things to dice. maybe onions, celery?? What else??? Share please Melody > > WOW!!! Guest guest
I saw one of these things and thought, hmmm, so that's how that works. So I went even more low tech and roll/squeeze the garlic between two fingers and it removes the peel too!! > > I peel garlic with a little section of thin rubber tubing, about an inch > in diameter. Guest guest
The rubber thingys for peeling garlic work, but why bother? Put your clove of garlic on your cutting board. Place the flat of the blade of a kitchen knife on the clove and give it a whack with the palm of your hand. The skin comes right off. Easy-peasy.  Peggy   To: sproutpeople Sent: Monday, June 6, 2011 10:40 AM Subject: Re: Fw: Melody has a NEW gadget!!!!  I saw one of these things and thought, hmmm, so that's how that works. Guest guest
I NEVER buy whole garlic. I have been buying jars filled with peeled cloves. But...because I have my new rubber thingee, I shall be purchasing whole cloves of garlic and seeing if there is a difference. When I buy whole garlic things, how do I store them? Thanks much Melody > > > > WOW!!! I need one. Guest guest
Hi. Don't know about any hanging garlic braid. Around here they sell packages with whole garlic (unpeeled) in them. I have never bought any kind of whole garlic. At first I used to buy the minced garlic in the oil in a jar. Then I found big jars with all the cloves all peeled and to me, that was just fine. I keep this in the fridge and take out what I need to use and put the container back in the fridge. But if I buy the whole unpeeled garlic things, and let's say I use half, I gather I refrigerate the other half, right? But what if I buy 5 whole garlic things. Do I store on my counter, or in the fridge? thanks, Melody > >> > > >> > WOW!!! I need one. Guest guest
Melody, When you buy fresh garlic, ask where it comes from. A lot of stores are selling garlic from China. Get California, Oregon or Washington State garlic if you can. ew Re: Fw: Melody has a NEW gadget!!!! I NEVER buy whole garlic. I have been buying jars filled with peeled cloves. Guest guest
Here in CA. is a town called Gilroy. It is the garlic capital of the world. If you ever visit there you will know why. You can smell the town from 20 miles away. If you ever get a chance to visit CA., try to make it to the Garlic Festival in Gilroy. A good time will be held by all. You can eat garlic flavored ice cream and garlic flavored french fries. ew Re: Fw: Melody has a NEW gadget!!!! Really? Never knew that. Tomorrow I shall go and take a look. Will report back. Guest guest
Garlic braids are not in season until fall; but it is the ideal way to store garlic ensuring proper air circulation, etc. They need air. There are lots of places on the web with detailed instructions on how to braid garlic as long as you want - like 9 feet maybe; but you need the long leaves to do it. A typical bought ready made braid will have 13 " pods " braided together. If you can devise a way to separate them and hang with good air flow around them, that would be ideal I guess. Good vampire hunting. Ann > Hi. > > Don't know about any hanging garlic braid.
