Guest guest
What is EMDR? Here is the definition that I pulled off the web: EMDR = Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. This is a treatment method often used with victims of trauma or abuse. Counselors using EMDR should have training certification. EMDRIA = EMDR International Association is a membership organization of mental health professionals dedicated to the highest standards of excellence and integrity in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). [Thanks to Stieler, RCC, Canada.] EMDR: EMDR stands for “Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing” and is a comprehensive method of psychotherapy designed to treat trauma and anxiety-related disorders. EMDR combines well-established therapeutic methods, including imaginable exposure, cognitive restructuring and self-control techniques into specific structured protocols, which are modified to meet the unique needs of each person It seems to be in the same vein as CBT but I would recommend talking to an expert who could properly explain the differences. Guest guest
Just an agreement to the CBT idea. We've tried many things with our 16 year old son and EX/RP is the only thing that has helped him. It is hard to find a therapist, but keep asking around. Be specific with what you want. We drive 45 minutes once a week to our psychologist, but he does CBT with EX/RP and it is worth it. > >Reply-To: >To: >Subject: Re: EMDR??? >Date: Tue, 15 Jul 2008 17:36:42 -0000 > >Hi.
