Guest guest Posted April 16, 2009 Report Share Posted April 16, 2009 North Fulton Autism Support Group Meeting Speaker: Hansen, CPA, CFO Marist School, President Arc of Georgia, Founder of Camp Awareness for children with autism. “One of my most important roles has always been as a parent of a 22 year old, , with autism (who has finished high school successfully and gone on to college, has had a job for 4 years but is currently waiting for brain surgery at Emory for his seizure disorder (20 a day without medicine, 2 a day with medicine)).” The presentation: · The power and courage to tell your child’s story around the syndrome of autism. · Explaining autism to lay people and professionals alike. · A simple but effective simulation on sensory overload that gives the audience empathy and understanding. · An explanation of my camp that I ran for 11 years and served over 1,000 children/adults with autism, and my experience in how the camp allowed each child success. · How to ask for and get the best IEP for your child with ideas outside the box. (I did them all)! Who is the Arc and why I belong because the camp helped a 1,000 children. · My association with the Arc and how it helped over 100,000 or more children/adults with autism. · I would also like to share my next dream with you all, how to help with employment for adults with autism (my next project). Stay on Rt. 120 East, turning onto Kimball Bridge Road. Turn left onto Bridge. Turn right onto Sargent Road Stay straight onto McGinnis Ferry Road. Turn right onto Hospital Parkway. Enter through the main doors of the Hospital. The Physicians' Plaza doors are locked on the weekends. Once in the main doors, head down the long hallway to the left.
