Guest guest
My son is 6 years old and on the HFA/Aspergers side of the spectrum we believe (the school has tested and suspected Aspergers and we have been to Kennedy Krieger but are still waiting on a final diagnosis). We have successful gotten him moved to a special program in our local school district based on the TEACCH approach. He has been doing GREAT since we made the move about 4 weeks ago and really making a lot of progress. We have an upcoming IEP meeting to talk about ESY services and I wanted to see if anyone on the list knows the criteria in land for ESY? Does anyone have any experience or recommendations with various types of ESY services that would be beneficial for a 6 year old (HFA/Aspergers)? I think the biggest thing that would be a benefit to him over the summer would be services related to social skills and while we will seek opportunities on our own we wanted to see what we might be able to do through the school system (Calvert County). While I realize that regression/recoupment are one of the primary criteria it does seem like there are other potential criteria (that vary by state). In my son's case with his age we feel that an argument could be made on the basis of windows of opportunity. Does anyone have recommendations in terms of advocating for ESY services? Thanks!
