Last week, Gillian (my 10yo aspie) had a field trip to the state capitol. We

live near it, so it isn't our first time being around there, but it was her

first time going inside the building.

One of the things we did, was sit in on a vote. One of the state rep's is from

our town, so when the vote was done, she introduced us to the floor, then came

up to the balcony we were on to talk with us for a few minutes.

Gillian was down quite a ways from me, so I didn't hear what happened until

after. The rep came over to talk with the teacher, who was next to Gillian.

Gillian thrust her hand out to shake Deb's (the rep) hand, and said, " My name is

Gillian. That's spelled G-I-L-L-I-A-N. I have autism! "

The state rep paused for a moment, then introduced herself to Gillian, and told

her that one of the items they have been voting on is a bill about Autism health

care.

The teacher said it was definitely a full on Gilly moment, and that it's likely

one of those things that will stick in mind with the rep for quite some time. ;)
