Joan,

Is this chewing on plastic or symptoms of pica? If I remember

correctly pica is from a lack of minerals.

Pica is chewing on things and it can be very dramatic, like chewing holes in a blanket for example. It is a known symptom of lead poisoning. Mercury is well documented to cause abnormal sensations in the mouth and peri-oral area so it wouldn't suprise me to know that I can blame mercury for the hours spent chasing my son to spit out acorns when he was 18 months old. I'm not sure about what other metals might cause it. Heidi [ ] Re: chewing on plastic Joan,Is this chewing on plastic or symptoms of pica? Some plasitics, especially those made in Mexico, can contain lead. I was

told awhile back that lead toxic kids crave things with lead in it, that it

actually tastes sweet to them. My son did this a few times while chelating.

I'd suggest getting all of the plastic out of the child's reach if possible.

Because plastic is high in phenols and for some cruel reason, our kids crave

what they should not eat!
