I use either Berodual (MDI or neb), Symbicort (use it as one of my maintenance med also) or...UGH! I forgot the name. There is one other. Also, my attacks almost always sends me to the ER, if not warrants an admission. About 8 out of 10 attacks I get don't stop with those. I usually do 3 neb treatments at home -- one dose, take the next after 15 minutes and then the last after another 15 minutes -- when I get an asthma attack. If using the MDI, my doctor says about 6 or 8 (I can't remember) puffs is like a dose of neb. If I don't feel relieved after those 3 treatments, it is the ER/hospital for me. I get another 3 doses in the ER the same way plus IV steroids. If I don't feel relieved, it is admission time -- which is usually the case. I have severe persistent asthma. And I get attacks that become refractory to medicines. I think the purpose of my rescue is so I make it to the ER/hospital since it doesn't really get my asthma under control. At least not most of the time.

Also, on days that I don't feel so well, if I use my Symbicort 8 times in one day, it is off to the hospital for me. I take 4 (2 in the morning, 2 at night) everyday. When I reach 4 times using it as rescue, I need to go to the hospital even if I don't think I am having that hard a time breathing. That is my limit since it wreaks havoc on my heart. So if reach that point, I have to go to the hospital for treatments.

Okay, I think I just rambled on. Sorry.

Jan,

Thank you for your answer.

I can't imagine not having a rescue inhaler, though.

What do you use for an attack???

Hope you are well,

Alana
