Guest guest
Last week a driver decides to run a red light and I just happened to be in the intersection. Immediately after I felt confused and my usual " emergency " brain did not take over. I could have cared less there was another head on accident in front of me! Not to mention I hurt all over... Anyway, I make an appointment with my primary care, she is on sabattical in Hong Kong doing accupuncture : I see my chiropractor before hand and get a complete spinal series of xrays that are negative for any real badness Replacement MD is available that day so I make the appointment. Appointment set at 3:30, I get there at 3:15, greeted by a front desk person in a very wrinkled scrub jacket. Put in the room with a very brief vitals and " do you have pain? " (duh)and wait, and wait, and wait. 50 minutes later I am still in the room, no one comes in to say the doc is running late. I go out to the front desk to inquire. They call the MA and try to find out what is going on. I go back to the room and they have already filled the room I was in with someone else! Profuse apologies and I am ushered into a room with an exam table still wet from cleaning. 10 minutes later an out of breath doc comes in and she says " Oh, so sorry, you are a doctor you understand how one patient can make you late " Mind you I have never met this person, no introduction. She rushes through the exam, barely touching me, most of the time with her face at the computer combing through my records to try to get an idea of even who I am. I tell her I think I have a concussion. She says... " you didn't lose conciousnes or hit your head " (I did have some post traumatic amnesia as another doc I saw did a more indepth exam) I tell her my wrist hurts. She says it's not broken.. I tell her what supplements I am taking. She says annoyingly " Why do you take that? " I reply they increase glutithione production in the liver and enhance mitochondrial function. She says, frowning sternly " hmpff...I need to see the evidence. " (and we wonder why some of our patients do not tell docs what alternative meds they are taking?) No summary of findings or real discussion of what I should do or not do. Gives me a note for 2 day off and says come back in 2 months so we can have a " real " appointment. Oh, and don't lift over 20 lbs. Mind you I can barely lift a gallon of milk at this point! Moral of the story, I never, ever, ever, want to treat my patients like this! Although I only have a few private practice patients and am doing contracting for VA disability exams now, when I finally do get a real office it will be IMP style and convey a valuable therapeutic relationship between patient and provider. Freida Eng Seattle PS I am looking for a good primary care doc in Seattle !

Guest guest
I attended a risk management seminar yesterday run by the Medical Protection Society ( has about 360,000 members ) .. we had to watch a video and critique the doctor patient encounter. It sounds like the doc you saw was similar to the one we had to critique! So sorry to hear of your accident. Hope all is well soon. Good luck with finding a new doc.
