Guest guest
We had a very similar situation! My son who is now 9 had it when he was 18 months. Our doctor at the time called it coxsockie. sockie can cause inflammation in the brain, and I think that this virus was a big culprit in my son's struggle. Jenn Initial Herpes 1 exposure? My 3.10 year old got sick several days before a big trip and his second birthday. He was running a fever and two or three sores INSIDE his mouth. Suspecting hand foot & mouth, I took him to his Dr. just to check it out because I knew we would be traveling (from Florida to Alaska for a cruise). His Dr. advised it was not hand foot and mouth and was probably just a non specific virus, it should clear up soon and to go ahead and take him on the trip, he couldn't see any reason we should stay home. Our son continued to get sicker, with more sores popping up and his fever hanging around, but the trip was an anniversary surprise for my parents and my entire family was flying so we felt obligated to go if no one was dying. By the day of departure we were alternating Motrin and Tylenol, and ds had not eaten anything (was drinking milk and juice) in four days. The plane trip was miserable and over the course of the twelve hour flight we noticed he had so many sores in his mouth that his gums were turning black..... to late to turn back at that point. In Alaska, after almost being turned away from getting on the ship, the ship doctor examined our son and told us he had gum disease??? And the fever was from an infection developing.. ... Not believing a two year old could have gum disease advanced enough to warrant an infection, lol, we disembarked at the first port two days later (and still running a fever) and found the only dentists office and waited around for him to show up. After looking in our sons mouth, he informed us that he had the worst case of initial Herpes infection he had ever seen. That most kids will get a cold sore or two at the initial exposure, possibly along with a fever and move on. He told us that more than likely our son was coming down with a cold or something when he was exposed and it just exploded into this. He did no tests or anything and didn't even charge us.We've been treating our ds with natural antivirals for about 6 weeks now and he is responding phenomenally. I have a phone consult with our DAN! tomorrow to discuss Valtrex. What I'm wondering is if it's a possibility that this episode was actually a Herpes infection, or could it have been something else?. Has anyones child ever had an episode of Herpes 1 of this magnitude? Our son has not had a cold sore since then, and even during this episode none of them were outside of his mouth. Also, can Valtrex and LDN be taken simultaneously? Never miss a thing. Guest guest
My girl was hospitalized at 6m for cellulitis on her face. Turned out is was HSV1 and by the time they got her on IV acyclovir it was almost up to her eye, from her cheek. It only happened twice after that, one resulting in another week in the hospital, and both times it was right after we had tried to wean her from an anitviral. The last time was almost 3 years ago. We have had her on antivirals ever since. Guest guest
My son has been taking LDN and valtrex simultaneously since starting valtrex. he's been doing wonderfully on them both. in fact, last july i had to temporarily stop giving him LDN when he had the croup so he could have steroids administered (LDN negates a steroid so they end up cancelling eachother out if you give them together). i decided to keep him off for a little while to see if i saw any significant difference. needless to say, i started him back on it after about 2 months. and it was a difficult start up... i will probably never take him off it again!! it's been a nice intervention for us hope this helps, mom to recovering nick, 6 years old :)Lori Ortega wrote: My girl was hospitalized at 6m for cellulitis on her face.
