I see there is little activity on this really busy group today and am hoping

that all is OK with everyone. Earlier, there was an indication of tornadoes in

the NJ/NY area. I hope that all is well and if your Internet service has been

interrupted, it will soon be restored. Most of all, I pray you are well and your

homes and loved ones are safe and still on (not in) good old terra firma!

Hope to see your sunny posts soon!

I had to drive to Seattle and then weed a bit in the short time I had

sunlight. It's raining again! I'm back online, looking for Melody's videos

Thanks, Pam! For some reason, whenever I check my inbox and there is NOTHING

there from the sproutpeople group, it gives me a bad feeling. I appreciate you

letting us know you're OK, at least. May it be so with everyone else, as well!

I feel sure we'll be treated to a story or stories like no other when Melody

gets back online!

Sunny days ahead!!

Although I miss having an outdoor garden, growing sprouts indoors has really

made a big difference for me. Usually, my husband would put our garden in right

around May 15th-the last date of possible frost. Well it rained like crazy that

week that we would have been doing that so I mentioned to my husband that we

would have been late putting in the garden if we were still gardening outdoors.

I got a funny look from him and then I remembered that he would work on it in

the rain! It was fun watching him tie his two large aerogarden tomato plants to

their trellis the other day-in the comfort of our dining room :). I do have a

large perennial herb garden that is pretty much on autopilot.

When lived in Seattle, I was amazed at how often it rained. It remains one of my

favorite cities to live in though. If my first husband had not died, I would

still be there.

I am not complaining though-here in NJ I did manage to meet my second husband.

And we had enough rain here in May to make me feel as if I was in Seattle!

n

Enjoying the heat and humidity!

HI.

I uploaded one before. It's the culmination of my trying to make a sprout

cooling system. I have done it. I just used the one styrofoam cooler and put 5

trays in, put all my cold keepers around it and plopped one on top and DID NOT

cover the cooler. Placed the whole thing on the shelf. This morning, everything

SPROUTED and it was still cool.

So I'll be doing this until September.

It's SO NICE knowing I can still sprout and today it hit 86 and I don't have air

conditioning. I have lots of fans. For me (with arthritis), this is fine, but

not to my sprouts.

I think by tomorrow they will be ready to harvest and I'll make a video of the

finished product.

And they are so nice and cool. Thank goodness I didn't lose this latest batch.

Hi n:

I'm trying to imagine my husband in a garden, ANY GARDEN!!!

He would be so out of place I can't tell you.

I have to sneak my sprouts into him.

I cannot believe how my life changed because of my sprouting.

It's amazing.

Hi there.

As my computer decided to cooperate I came back online. Don't know if it's for

good but at least I'm here.

New Jersey got hit with rain today about 5 p.m. But not in Brooklyn. The skies

darkened and I said " uh oh, it's going to do SOMETHING outside "

Never happened. My friend who lives in NJ called me and said 'Oh my god, how did

you do with the downpour? "

I said " What downpour?? "

Seems it missed my area.

Then the sun came back out and it was hotter than ever. Good Lord, it was hot

today.

But my sprouts are thriving in my new cooler.

So I'm sproutingly happy.

lol

Toot Toot everybody.

Hi Peggy,

Thank you for you note and well wishes. As far as I know, we dodged the

tornadoes. I think Melody must be having that computer problem again, because

the tornado watch was over at 8pm, so I am assuming she is okay.

It looked really scary here though-my little dog is very afraid of storms and

has spent a good part of her day in her hiding spot.

She has come out, so I am confident we are out of danger,

She is better than the weather channel!

Glad to hear it! We used to have a dog and she was a terrific weather predictor.

Come to think of it, the dog we had when I was growing up was the same way.

Maybe they all have that heightened sense of change coming. Lucky us to have

them!

We're hearing from Melody again, too, so I guess all is well. I'll consider it

so unless proven otherwise.

I am upgrading to a new computer and experiencing " technical difficulties " , lol.

We got hit with the storms on the 27th of April, and JUST when I got my garden

recovered from THAT storm, we got nailed with a hailstorm, which further trashed

my garden. In light of what has been going on though, losing my gardens was a

far sight better than what others have lost!

Speaking of dogs, my friend Vivian's dog Babe bit her last night. Never in the

14 years that she has had him has he ever bitten anybody.

She was so upset. See, she talks to him like he's human. We all do. He listens,

he knows when he shouldn't poop in a certain place, etc. But lately when he does

something naughty, he walks over to her and barks and she will say " Okay, what

did you do? " and she finds he did SOMETHING.

So last night this happened and he pooped in the living room. She reprimanded

him, she went to bend down and pick up the poop and he bit her. She wrenched her

arm away and he took a piece of it. Never in 14 years has this happened. He is

up to date on his shots and everything but she WAS SO UPSET. We disinfected

everything and she's fine but I don't know. Is it because he's 14 and can barely

walk anymore?

Can dogs go bad or whatever it's called, at a certain age?

Thanks much

Tell her to have a FULL thyroid panel done ASAP. Many times as a dog

ages they can become hypothyroid which can affect behavior. Dogs can

also experience dementia to include cranky, unexpected behaviors

Sounds like he hurts...and that needs to be addressed. What breed of

I am by no means a dog expert, but in my experience, when you see that kind of

change in a dog, I look for underlying physical problems or even cognitive

decline, maybe even dementia.

Since the dog is 14, I would suspect something is going on with

him.

I am sorry for both your friend and her dog Babe.

I completely agree n. I would make sure that the dog was not

experiencing any pain too.Is he unable to walk because of age related

issues (ie: arthritis or an old injury ie: an ACL injury or a genetic

issue ie: degenerative myleopathy which by the way is

painless)...Many questions I know but all essential when it comes to

making a good diagnosis

The suggestions regarding getting the physical checks are all important, and

I would do that if I had a dog, but in addition, I want to say that animals

are very sensitive to things like weather changes I know that before an

earthquake you will find many more " lost animal " reports. If the dog is old

and in the house and unable to get out, it's entirely possible that it was

also reacting to something going on that Vivian might not be aware of ,

such as changes in the electromagnetic field.

My problem is just the opposite. I can't get my wife to help in the garden. If I

even ask her to go pick something for dinner, she acts as if its an insult. And

I think she does a poor job so that I will quit asking. Yesterday, I asked to go

out and pick some beans for dinner while I got everything else ready. In a few

minutes, I heard her call my name at the back door. I looked out and she was

standing there with every beet from my garden. Today, I pickled them because

there were so many.

But now, it will be six weeks before the next planting is ready to harvest. I

love fresh beets!!

EW:

You and I should run away together. We'd be in GARDEN heaven.

lol. Our spouses could buy stuff from the supermarket, and we'd be knee deep in

soil, (I'd be in hydroponic heaven).

I will never forget the last time I went to Disneyworld (this was 25 years ago)

They had some ride called " Listen to the Land " or something like that, and you

got in a boat and they took you on a tour of how they grow ALL THE FOOD IN

DISNEYWORLD. Well, to say I was amazed is putting it mildly. It was all

hydroponics. All the food was underwater. Various veggies, etc. Connected to

hoses and pipes of some sort. The guide was explaining. We grow ALL the food

that is served in Disneyworld.

I so enjoyed that particular ride. We rode up and down and on either side was

ALL THE VEGETABLES on vines underwater. I should have paid more attention way

back then.

I had never ever heard of hydroponics. I heard of farming of course but

hydroponics?

I said to my husband " Wouldn't it be cool to do this " . He wasn't interested.

And now I sprout!!!

Hi All.

There has never been a dog more better taken care of than Babe. He has had

surgeries (no cost was spared), he is so loved and taken care of and has had all

vet appointments (as recently as last week) when she noticed a thing growing on

his paw. That was taken care of and he had to be given 3 separate pills each

day.

But nothing says it like the video I made when he came home from the hospital

last October because he had a mass removed from his body.

This was one day after he came home. We came to visit Babe. The video changes

when I used the zoom on my Flip, but as you can see, Babe is a very loving dog.

I just wanted all of you to meet Babe. I had gone on Doggy websites where they

pray for animals. This dog had LOTS of people rooting for him.

So, may I present BABE.

Hi.

Excellent suggestion. She'll do it. They spare no expense when it comes to their

beloved Babe.

I just posted a video I took of Babe when we welcomed her home from the

hospital.

But your thyroid panel suggestion is a good one. I don't know anything about

dogs and tests.

I'll tell her this when I see her later.

AND THANKS SO MUCH.

Babe doesn't move like this anymore. The video that I posted was October of last

year.

He's much much slower now. Age is really getting to him.

Melody

P.S. We have several friends who live on our block who are vet assistants. They

work at the Vet. They are always looking in on Babe, checking him, and telling

her what to do. But I am going to mention the thyroid panel anyway. I have no

idea if this has been done.

Will update.

I have never been to Disneyland -and never wanted to go - until just now.

Wow I would really like to see that!

you got in a boat and they took you on a tour of how they grow ALL THE FOOD

IN DISNEYWORLD. Well, to say I was amazed is putting it mildly. It was all

hydroponics. All the food was underwater. Various veggies, etc. Connected to

hoses and pipes of some sort. The guide was explaining. We grow ALL the food

that is served in Disneyworld.
