Guest guest
Hi. I was told by the people running the Accord Program out of Cornell (it was a diabetic-heart protocol), well, they told me to NEVER have juice because it's all concentrated sugar. So I have NEVER had juice. But.....they were not referring to wheatgrass or broccoli or sprout juice. So this is a wait and see experiment. I have had wheatgrass juice (I actually have the organic powder in a mason jar in my home). Tastes horrible but I got it down. Haven't had it in a while. Since my sugar is GOOD now, I might as well, give it a try starting tomorrow. When is the best time to have a little cup of this? Upon arising, after testing one's blood sugar?? Before bedtime?? Or during the day? Thanks for the info Melody > > Melody and , > Wheatgrass juice is very strong tasting, broccoli sprout juice is almost > hot, but also not near as strong as wheatgrass juice. Guest guest
Thanks for the sprout Juice info Suz.... I will be giving me current 3 batches of sprouts - French Garden, Russian Mix, and Nicks Spicy a juicing attempt when they are done in a few days. I will definitely be adding a nice fruit sweetener-although I'll try them straight and hope I don't gag....I'm pretty adventurous and down pretty heavy duty green drinks w/ little trouble so I may actually enjoy them straight....I'm also going to get crazy and eventually juice my fav sprout mix-Hot Squared- radish and mustard.....that should be mind blower-but what a powerhouse of a tonic it will be.I'd appreciate anyone else posting with their sprout juicing adventure stories. Thanks for whoever brought up the whole notion of juicing sprouts because I think it will be a great way to get super phyto nutrients almost directly into the blood!! I'm not sure why I never really considered it before. As for sprout juice affecting blood sugars, I doubt it would do so very much, and being the amazing tonics that they are-might possibly help to regulate/normalize/repair the endocrine activities in the body. Cousins has documented numerous insulin dependent diabetics who went off insulin forever on a raw food/ juice diet. It does a body great!!! taste of sprout juice Melody and , Wheatgrass juice is very strong tasting, broccoli sprout juice is almost hot, but also not near as strong as wheatgrass juice. Guest guest
While you still need the goodness from the fiber and cellulose from eating whole veggies and fruits and sprouts, when you juice them as well you are able to break down the cell walls and get only the super digestible liquid nutrition that these items contain without all the cellulose and fiber getting in the way of digestion and assimilation. You should still eat both though. Re: taste of sprout juice I guess I still don't understand the point of juicing sprouts. Don't you get more nutrients by eating the whole thing? Guest guest
Well, and correct me if I'm mistaken, when you juice a bunch of fruit, you get a concentrated form of the fruit. That's a lot of sugar in one dose. That's why diabetics shouldn't go near fruit juice. It's better to eat an apple than drink apple juice. Now as far as juicing sprouts and the nutritional differential, I would think that if you take a LOT of sprouts and juice them, you get a lot of nutrition in that one little shot glass. It's the concentration of it that goes into you. That's a whole lot of nutrition in one little shot glass. But I like my sprout salads. I like the colors, the tomatoes, the black olives, and everything else I throw into it. That's my lunch, along with some protein. If I had to drink my lunch, well IT WOULD NOT BE THE SAME!!! lol Melody > > > > Thanks for the sprout Juice info Suz.... Guest guest
Okay, that does it-I am on board with this sprout juicing. I am going to try Italian mix juiced, first plain, and if it is worse than wheatgrass, I will mix it in some fruit juice. I once made the grave mistake of mixing carrot juice (a great favorite of mine), with wheatgrass juice-UGH Apple seems to work fine on days I am not up for a straight shot. I am curious about juicing radish/mustard sprouts. I enjoy them so much and imagine the juice will be interesting. How are you all juicing your sprouts? Guest guest
OK - that makes sense. I'm thinking that I might start throwing sprouts into any smoothies that I start making. I'm with Melody though, " drinking " my meals doesn't appeal to me that much. And I am definitely not a " juice " sort of person. If it's going to be liquid, I want it to be thick and creamy and like a shake. ;-) So a smoothie for me would be an extra " treat " and heaven knows, I don't need too many of those! I DO like the idea of putting spinach and kale into smoothies though - I just am ending up with way too much at one time. What do some of the " single smoothie drinkers " here do with all the extra? Or do you cut the recipes down to make just one serving? Thanks for the info! I have learned SO much from this group in the short time I've been here. Guest guest
I make smoothies often with primarily spinach greens mixed w/ banana and an orange and rice/hemp protein, green powders, vit c etc.....the sky's the limit-that's the great thing about smoothies-you can add whatever you like. You might think that kale or spinach would make it taste awful-but you hardly know they are there, except for that great green color. The great thing about blending the greens as opposed to juicing is that your still getting all the necessary fiber from the plant, which assures regularity. Guest guest
n, please keep us updated on your sprout juicing trials. I just ordered the Italian mix for the first time and am looking forward to trying it. I use a Omega VRT330 Vertical juicer. It juices everything including wheatgrass. It's been somewhat neglected lately but I'm hoping to use it a lot more with sprout juicing. taste of sprout juice > > Melody and , > Wheatgrass juice is very strong tasting, broccoli sprout juice is almost > hot, but also not near as strong as wheatgrass juice. Guest guest
Okay, I have a juicing question. If I get my Jack La Lanne Juicer (or whatever brand I have), it's a powerful one, and I juice my broccoli sprouts (along with my other sprouts), and it comes out as this little cup of green juice and I add some of my protein powder to that, (and maybe a half teaspoon of my wheatgrass powder), well, CAN I DO THAT?? Don't care about how it tastes. I gather it will be a protein packed DRINK, that won't impact my blood sugar? Did I get this correct? Thanks much. If I do this, this will really be something. I could do this for my husband also, saying " Drink this and don't give me any trouble " lol Melody

Guest guest
My favorite Smoothie is a little nondairy milk (usually almond or sunflower or maybe soy)' a handful of frozen or fresh berries, a large fresh or frozen banana, and as much kale as I can stuff into the vitamix. Top off with a handful of ice cubes and blend until all is smooth. You can add whatever you want to that and as said, you don't taste the kale. Once the weather gets consistently warm, I will start making it. For now, I have an apple, carrot, orange juice that I enjoy almost every day as well as large kale salads. Today I hope to juice some sprouts-I need to get moving to get to the office though. n In overcast NJ, looking forward to sunny skies! Guest guest
You can definitely do that, although I don't know how palatable it will be. Give it a shot and see if you like it. Guest guest
Oh, I just had a thought. I now use Stevita berry. It's WONDERFUL. Got it off of ebay. I posted a video on this on my sproutchannel. I think I'll put some of that in a little up, do the juice thing, add the green stuff to the berry drink (actually, I don't care what it tastes like but Alan will). AND I'LL DEFINITELY MAKE A VIDEO when I do this. How funny Melody > > You can definitely do that, although I don't know how palatable it will be. Give it a shot and see if you like it. Guest guest
I'm loving this discussion. I used to think smoothies were just sweetened, fancy hi-cal milkshakes for people fooling themselves that they were eating healthy (and many commercial smoothies DO fall into that category). Then I tried my own. I control what goes in, I know the nutritional value, I control the portion size. It's my morning starter, especially when I work on weekends, since I get called around the hospital starting early, and I know I'm able to get quality nutrition on board quickly. Carrot juice base, whatever available fruit, sometimes yogurt, spirulina, parsley, cucumber, greens. One of my friends calls it my " baby sh** drink " . The green stuff especially upsets co-workers -- hardened ICU nurses lol. One co-worker flattered me a couple of weeks ago -- she said she's convinced my skin looks so good because of my smoothies and good eating. (Mind you, I have rosacea, so some days all I see is reddened skin, but maybe sometimes it looks better. Always nice to get nice feedback.) Blend away, y'all! Re: taste of sprout juice I'm loving this discussion. Guest guest
TONIGHT!!! I'm experimenting on Alan, with the juicing. I'll get it on tape. That should be funny. Melody > > > > Okay, I have a juicing question. I could do this for my husband also, saying " Drink this and don't give me any trouble " > > > > lol > > > > Melody > > >
Guest guest
Hats off to both Molly and for their hard and essential work in icu. Although I no longer work in hospitals, I am forever respectful and grateful to those of you in the trenches doing that daily, hard work. I used to do triage in the ER in jersey city, back in my undergrad days-oh my, the things the Er, OR, and ICU had to handle! Hats off to you and God Bless. You are doing important work. I am hoping to juice sprouts this weekend-been working a lot and absolutely need the break and the excitement of trying this! marionl Who is looking forward to a weekend of juices, reading, and rest! Guest guest
Thanks n. I'll be working all weekend but I'm going to harvest some of my sprouts this evening and do my first sprout juice. If it energizes me as others have mentioned,I'll be juicing it every morning! Your weekend plans sound blissful, and I think we're in for some sun again. :ave a great weekend all!
