Hello, I am Joan, mother of a 28 yr old newly diagnosed with Hep A & C. Daughter currently in hospital for suicide statements made to er nurse when she refused to fill methadone request. Daughter has been self-detoxing from 60 mg to 10 mg per day. Daughter was prescribed Methadone to control pain several years ago. I was there when the Dr prescribed it. It was supposed to help her function. She wants to get off all meds to preserve her liver. She has 8 yr history of medical misdiagnoses and surgeries that has contributed to her inability to work and function. Most recent Hep diagnosis is a wake up call. She doesn't live with me but near. I am newly married and husband doesn't have children (until now). I have been her enabler (some say), I am very aware of the concept as I have several decades membership in Al-Anon. My enabling resulted in mortgaging

and eventually losing our condo to pay living expenses and medical expenses to get a diagnois of what was causing her pain and inability to function. The diagnoses were mere symptoms, not actual causes until now.

I "ran away" when I married 2 yr ago. I stopped working, paying bills and the cards fell where they fell. I couldn't do it anymore. I had actually gotten word from the Health Dept that my Gastroenternologist's office was closed due to improper procedures that may have exposed ME to Hepatitis and AIDS. My fiancee at the time suggested we run off into the desert and points beyond and it seemed like a good idea. It still is.

So, I pray "thy will be done," over and over to get to sleep while she is in the hospital for observation. It has worked. She is overwhelmed and run down 84lbs, detoxing in a place that doesn't specialize in that. I did research and shared that Suboxon for minimizing withdrawl symptoms. A saving grace has been daughter's fiancee and his 3 yr old daughter. This little motherless girl has been a reason for daughter to get out of bed. Fiancee is supportive and adores his daughter and mine, too.

I can't talk to too many about this. I have learned over the years that I must not talk about her challenges. Praying helps me stop obsessing about trying to force a solution. This has never worked! Do you know what I mean?

Prayers and hugs go out to you and your family. Disease is worse when you are

misdiagnosed and you are not getting the appropriate medical care.
