Guest guest
> > both > 1 How can you sleep at night seeing an INR of 6.0?? Let's not mix legal with moral. I believe the question was about legal obligation and I think you should talk with the malpractice insurance and have their lawyer fax a nice letter to your ER. The patient should be provided with your phone number to call but no labs should be faxed to you until after you actually agree to see the patient. The physician who orders the test is the one who follows on the test. I get the same from our hospitalist group, sometimes they " refer " a patient to me after discharge and I get the discharge summary in the EMR, with my name on it. What if one of these patients needs a follow up CXR because of a lung nodule but he never calls to actually see me in the office ? Do I start chasing him down, sending certified letters and so on ? About the moral part... we are all adults able to decide for ourselves how to conduct our moral life.
