I'm just reading of all the side effects and I'm fighting with myself if it's the right thing to do. I have to do something because the way we're going is not good. Guest guest Posted February 14, 2012 Report Share Posted February 14, 2012 My son is also 5 and was just dxed as Asperger's - he took 5 mg of focalin xr for about a year and it stunted his growth. Our pediatrician did not find this to be an acceptable side effect since no one really knows if they " bounce back " and have what would have been their " normal " growth spurt later. I don't remember the exact numbers off the top of my head but he went from being in the 85-90th percentile in height down to 30th and his weight went from the 45-50th percentile down to the 7th. All kids are different though.
