Guest guest
I know we've talked about Risperdal in the past here, so... My son started out taking .5mg/day and is now up to 1mg/day. He is about 60 lbs or so. It is the first medication that we have tried that really seems to be working without any side effects. I know some people on here have mentioned some bad side effects they've had with Risperdal such as growing breasts....How high was the dose that your child was on when you started seeing the crazy side effects? This med. seems to be working, but I don't want the dose to go too high where it will affect his hormones. THanks
Guest guest
My 12 yr old is coming off of Risperdal after 6 years because his breasts are starting to get puffy looking, which started when he hit puberty. He was taking 1 mg daily. That is the warning we received last summer--puberty can trigger the breast development. My son has been able to avoid the weight gain issue because he exercises so much--about 1-2 hrs a day of running, swimming or martial arts. I think weight gain also effects how the breasts look. Anyway, we are transitioning to Abilify now. It also carries the burden of weight gain, but can be offset by a proper diet and exercise. Ability does not have the breast development side effect.
