This seminar is designed to educate and inform parents on the IEP process. It will answer questions such as: `Where does the Regional Center stop and the District start?' `What is the difference between what the Regional Center provides and the School District provides?', as well as tips on assembling and organizing your documents such as assessments, observations, and evaluations; requesting an independent assessment and the role of an independent educational evaluation. It will also address what team members should be present at the meeting, and explanation of Free and Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) and Least Restrictive Environment (LRE), etc. Speech Therapy: What to Expect from a Comprehensive Speech and Language Assessment - Driftmier, MS, CCC-SLP, Driftmier is a Speech and Language Pathologist and the Assistant Director of Children's Services at the Casa Colina Centers for Rehabilitation. This presentation will define, describe and outline the components of a speech and language evaluation, the relationship of these components to communication and learning, and what common tests are used and when they should be utilized. Occupational Therapy: Receiving a Comprehensive Educational Assessment - Michele Keilson, OTR/L Michele Keilson is an Occupational Therapist at the Casa Colina Centers for Rehabilitation. This workshop is designed to help parents and caregivers understand the role of occupational therapy in the schools,identify the need for an assessment and identify the characteristics of a comprehensive assessment. Topics covered include IEP goals, goal revision for objective measurement and an overview of the common standardized assessments.
