Guest guest
Thanks for answering, I was asleep. No problem. I'm glad things have worked out for you. It's gotten better here, as least we don't hear so much about it on the news. Guest guest
Oh, Melody, how awlful. Beverly Texas Re: Placing the Sproutgarden INSIDE refrigerator on HOT days!!! Hi. Want to know another reason why I don't trust people that much in my area? A few weeks ago my husband was riding on the bus with his cane. He can barely walk but he gets around. He needed to get off the bus and this man would not let him by. Since his bus stop was fast approaching my husband again asked the guy to move, the guy wouldn't budge and my husband just moved past him. The guy decked my husband to the floor, eyeglasses go flying and he started pummeling my husband. Of course my husband defended himself with his cane. The guy ran off the bus. Unfortunately and because it was his time to get off the bus, my husband followed the guy in where he worked. The police were called and my husband demanded that the guy be held responsible. After hearing what went down, the cop turned to my husband and said: " If I arrest HIM, I have to arrest YOU because you had the cane and that's considered a weapon, so you'd be charged with a felony. It didn't matter that my husband was all bruised and bleeding. Of course no charges were pressed because everyone would have had to go before a judge and who knew how the judge would rule. The point is that if you are accosted on a bus, and you have a cane, and you defend yourself, you will be charged with a felony and have to plead your case in court. It can be decided in your favor or not in your favor. I checked with other cops and yes, that's the law. I told my husband. " Next time some guy jumps you and you have your cane, hand him the cane, and defend yourself. That way HE HAS THE CANE!!! this really happened by the way. Guest guest
There is no NEW sprouting rack. There is my new cooling system in which I placed my SproutGarden inside a big round tub and put all ice cold keepers around it. Works like a charm to keep my sprouts nice and cool. Who said there was a new sprouting rack? lol I wouldn't give up my sprouting shelves for all the tea in China. Melody

Guest guest
Peggy: They all stood and did NOTHING while the guy had Alan down on the floor and was pummeling him. Alan's glasses went flying. Alan defended himself with the cane. That's when the guy jumped off the bus. THEN the people helped Alan get up and someone found his glasses. No one did anything to pull the guy off. I know me. If I had been there (and it wouldn't matter if it was my husband or a complete stranger), I would have immediately jumped on the guy, taken his hands, put them behind his back, lassood him, and brought him in for slaughter. But that's me!!! lol You have to have a sense of humor when you look back and see these things. After that Alan and I have had discussions on how to react to this if it ever happens again. As a matter of fact, I'm giving a presentation at our next Neuropathy Support Group meeting. The topic?? How to be able to get off a bus when no one will let you. What to do if you are attacked on a bus. And similar instances. We have a lot of timid disabled people at the meetings. The leader, once he found out how I am able to move 50 people at a time so I can get off of a bus, well he asked me " Melody will you please give a presentation on how they can do this " You would all be surprised at how often disabled people won't open their mouth, won't get up and will just sit on the bus until ALL THE PEOPLE GET OFF. They will sometimes ride 5 or 6 stops past their intended get off stop. They don't know what to do , what to say or the correct way to exit a bus that is MASSIVELY CROWDED. The reason I know how to do this. I do it EVERY TIME. Everyone gets off the bus and let's me off. Then when I get off, they all get back on. Want to know what I do?? I'll tell you. One time Alan and I were on a bus filled with 100 people. When you ring the bell to get off at the next stop, and even if there are 10 people between you and the door, people will suck in their gut and make you SQUEEZE in between them. And what if you are carrying a push cart with groceries? Or as in Alan's case, maybe his walker (that has been folded up), or his cane. You have to know how to get the people OFF the bus so you may exit. Alan looked at me and said " Melody we can't get off this bus there are 50 people between us and the door " . I simply got up, yelled: " DISABLED MAN COMING THROUGH, DISABLED MAN COMING THROUGH " . Everybody got off the bus, we had all the room in the world and I thanked everyone for being SO KIND, and everyone was mumbling (not happy) but no one did a thing. After all, WHO WANTS TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ARGUING WITH A DISABLED PERSON. These were ALL teens by the way. That's why it worked with them. If you have a nut like my husband encountered, you have to yell to the bus driver (I asked this of a bus driver and he told me what to do if this ever happens again). You yell out " I'm DISABLED and I can't get off the bus " The the bus driver will get involved. If the guy makes trouble the bus driver will call the police but it really never gets to that point. Alan must have encountered a man who was really having a bad day and he snapped. I've found many different ways to exit a crowded bus. They all work. It's a matter of knowing how to ask and get a positive response. It's also best to not be on a massively crowded bus, but hey, it happens. Guest guest
Well, I asked a bus driver this very same question. First, I asked Alan what the bus driver did while this was going on? Nothing because this is a NYC bus and this took place in the back of the bus and the bus driver is all the way at the front of the bus. Alan thought like a guy (can't blame him). All that testosterone flying around. What Alan should have done is after the first time he asked the guy to let him by and the guy ignored him, Alan should have shouted " Bus Driver I need to get off this bus and I'm not able " . The Bus driver THEN has to act. Alan didn't do that. All this stuff happened so fast (Alan asked the guy to move two times, the guy didn't budge, Alan went to move past him and the guy decked him. Now if this had happened in the front of the bus, well, I have no idea but I gather the bus driver would have starte to yell, or would have gotten his phone and called it in.They all have 2 way radios and cell phones. You have absolutely no idea the kind of people that now use public transportation. Many people were bounced from Access a ride (a transportation system for the handicapped). All these people can no longer use Access a ride and they now have to take public transportation. Many (and I mean many) of these people have mental problems. If you happen to have one sitting next to you and he's having a bad day, FORGET IT!!!! So now we know better and how to handle it. The one thing I learned from all this is that if you are holding a cane, it's considered a weapon (even if you defend yourself with it). A judge has to rule on this. That's Brooklyn, NY (and I would imagine most other places) Imagine, a guy hits you, you defend ourself with your cane while he's pummelling you and the cop tells you " I would have to charge you with a felony because you used your cane " . Like I said before, if it was ME and I had to carry a cane, and some nut tried to attack me, I would say " Here, hold this " and then defend myself. It's called " covering my *ss " Melody > > The question that I've been wanting to ask is: What was the bus driver doing while this was going on. Aren't the drivers supposed to respond to fights and confrontations? > ew > > Re: Placing the Sproutgarden INSIDE refrigerator on HOT days!!! > > Peggy: > > They all stood and did NOTHING while the guy had Alan down on the floor and was pummeling him.
