Guest guest
Suz, you may not want your sunnies to get that tall. After they get their first true leaves, they are not as tasty as when they are smaller. ew My mothers day Easy green Sprouter, but in my GO Greens it will get 8 to 9 inches tall. As will my sunnies. Guest guest
Suzan Belated Happy Birthday! What a great setup you have! It sounds like your Mother's Day was nice. I just planted a crop of wheatgrass for juicing. Have been pretty busy with patients but managing to juice and eat sprouts here and there. I am very interested in hydroponics too-our aerogardens are doing well And my husband is excited about the tomatoes we hope to have. When I am asked where I get the time to manage my practice, prepare healthy food, stay involved in my hobbies, and keep up with things, I tell people that it is a joy to grow sprouts and eat good organic food. Guest guest
I said I never had Mexican DURING MY MARRIAGE. I had Mexican food PLENTY before I got married. I went to Chi Chi's, and their tortilla chips and their fajitas, TO DIE FOR. That's how I got to be 300 lbs. And you want me to go for Mexican food again?? Really???? lol lol lol Melody > > Melody, I am shocked. Girl, you need to get yourself down here so I can > take care of this. Bring Alan with you. Guest guest
Hi. Thank you for your nice wishes. And I tried to learn how to make California rolls a long time ago. Bought the nori wraps, had the rice in the house, bought the avocado, THEN I LEARNED YOU NEED SUSHI RICE, not regular rice. But I do make sprouts in the Nori which is GOOD!!! But my favorite food on the planet is Japanese. They make it right in front of you. I know the restaurant. The lunch is $5.50. You can't beat it. So whenever we want to go anywhere, we simply walk around the corner and there it is. Alan can't drive any more due to his neuropathy and he uses either a quad cane or a rollator, so around the corner is just dandy for us. And one of these days, we might even try squeezing into one of those tables that can fit only little people. lol Mel > > > > > > > > My birthday is on Cinco De Mayo, so of course I had to work. Guest guest
I remember when, at Chi Chi's, they used to keep refilling the tortilla chip bowl. Oh my god, and the salsa. Oh, the memories!!!! Reminds me a very good experience I had when I first ate Mexican. I was 18 years old, on my first job as a typist in NYC and one day the other girls said " we are going out for Mexican " . I said " oh I have never had Mexican " (and this was for LUNCH) So one of the girls takes out a bottle of Sangria (Now I don't drink, never have, it's not my thing but I will enjoy a nice glass of burgundy at a wedding or an affair but on the whole, I never drink, and it's been about 5 years since I had a glass of anything. So I look at the other girls and I said " why on earth are you bringing a bottle of Sangria? " She said " Oh, when you go to this place, you bring your own booze " Now, remember I'm 18 years old, and have never drunk anything. I said 'okay, let's go " . So we arrive at the Mexican Restaurant. A nice little cozy place where EVERYBODY has brought a bottle of some kind of wine. I'm taking it all in, and the waitress comes with a menu and everybody orders some kind of Mexican Dish and everything came with refried beans. That was my FIRST experience with this food and it was delicious. Everybody is having a glass of Sangria (even me) because I wanted to fit in and get the experience of it all. But the absolute best thing about this experience is what happened after the meal. Everybody starts to stand up and I'm saying " Wait, we all have to get our checks, where's the waitress? Everybody starts to laugh and one of the girls said 'You don't get a check " . I said " what do you mean you don't get a check " .? Now I was 18 years old, HAD NEVER GONE OUT TO LUNCH WITH ANYONE BEFORE, but I had gone out with my parents and at the end of a meal, they always got a check, my father would then go and pay the bill, and we'd leave. So I'm looking around and sure enough, no one is checking any checks. Everyone is walking up to the register and they are saying " I had the chicken with the refried beans, or " I had the steak with the refried beans, " , etc. etc. etc. " Everyone took their turn, NO ONE LIED, and when it was my turn, I said " I had the chicken with the refried beans " , and the lady told me what I owed, and I paid her. After that meal, we went there once a week until I got another job. I repeat, NO ONE EVER LIED. It would not occur to us to do that. But then again, this was 1966. I'll tell you, NEVER AGAIN did I NOT GET A CHECK. What an amazing experience that was. Sangria and no check!!!! lol Mel > > > > Melody, I am shocked. Guest guest
This was my first Mother's Day to be the " Mother " . I've wanted to be a mom for a very long time. A decade or so ago I actually spoke with an adoption agency about adopting as a single mother. They were agreeable but I realized that I did not have the support network I'd need (and I was still dealing with a lot of issues of my own). Anywhoo...A year ago a young man (18 at the time) started talking to me at church and was soon calling me " Mom " . Three months ago, my mom and I opened our home to him as we'd discovered that he was in a verbally and physically abusive sitation with his father. Thus, I became a Mom. He gave me a gift Sunday--a plaque. The last line reads " I want to thank you, Mom, and tell you lovingly you are the best thing life has given to me! " Sad to think that I'm the best thing life has given him... how do I live up to that! He is a good boy. He hasn't been able to find a job but he works his butt off around here--yard work, gardening, housework. Things had gotten rather overwhelming for mom and I the last few years and BJ is helping us get caught up. He is so excited to learn to eat healthy foods and grow our own veggies and the future plans for chickens and ducks and rabbits and dairy goats. He sometimes seems like a 19yo going on 14yo but knowing his background explains much of that. So, anyway, sorry for bending ya'lls ear on such an off-topic topic...I still can't believe I'm a mom at 47! Tina
Guest guest
Oh, I've misled you. Not a Benihana kind of restaurant (where the chef throws things up and they land in his pocket), God I miss that place. Been to Benihana MANY times. We would all sit (10 people) around the same table. Goodness that was so much fun. No, the restaurant around the corner from me is a Japanese restaurant with a live Sushi Bar and they prepare the sushi and california roll right in front of you. But the main part, where they prepare meals, is in the back. One negative thing I have to say is that every time we walk in (and this happened again on Mother's Day), there is ALWAYS some guy banging in the back. I don't know what the heck he is banging, but he bangs. It's very hard to eat in a calm atmosphere when this banging is going on. Thankfully the guy stopped after 15 minutes but the last time I went there I was so upset I went to the front and told the girl " how on earth are we supposed to enjoy a meal while the guy is banging? " She just looked at me because I gather it was the norm for that place. That is the ONLY negative statement I can make about going to that restaurant. If they stopped the banging, it would be perfect. I just might order out and bring the food home next time. That way, no banging. lol Melody > > > > > > > > > > My birthday is on Cinco De Mayo, so of course I had to work. So, I took > > > > > Mothers day off to celebrate my birthday. Guest guest
I'm not offended (and I am one " one of those " ). When BJ first came to the church and we met, it was (please don't get offended) as if God were bringing us together--an instant sense that I was to be the mom he never really had. God is good, Tina > > Tina, this is grand. Truly, I believe that in the next couple of years with the economy (and floods and climate change) going the way it's going, we will all need " family " - BJ is exactly where he needs to be, and (at the risk of offending our more traditional religious people) whatever that karmic relationship is - it's of benefit for both of you. > > pam

Guest guest
Tina: I just have to chime in here. You PERSONIFY what the word MOTHER is all about. Many people become a parent because they know they will get a monthly check. Many people become a parent because of an accident that they forgot to use a certain something. Many people become a parent because they have nothing better to do so they say " Oh, I'll have a kid " . You are not one of those people. You are the type of parent that a higher power chose to put on this earth to share what is in your heart. You have no idea how your goodness and your love will shine on that young man. You are his role model. And the fact that his personality allows for his acceptance of what you have to offer speaks volumes. Not that you might not have a problem or two down the road. That is what the word PARENT is all about. But the fact that you opened your home and heart to another human soul, and that soul gave you that card on Mother's Day and that he wrote what he wrote, well, it brings a joy to me that you can't imagine. You did a good thing. A great thing. Now go and enjoy being a mom. And when he starts doing things that all teenagers eventually do, and you start rolling your eyes and you start asking yourself " Oh my god, what did I get myself into " ??, remind yourself. " This kid is going through a stage where all kids rebel and do stuff " THIS TOO SHALL PASS. And when all is said and done, you will then have raised a good, moral and just human being who will pay it forward. And isn't that what we all intend when we become a parent? Melody > > > > Tina, this is grand.
