The great thing about Osler is that he was real, played a huge part of shaping

American health care in the late 1800s and early 1900s, was at s Hopkins (my

alma mater, so we heard about him all the time, even as undergrads), but he is still

remote enough to by somewhat mythical. Great position to be in history once your

dead! Kind of like Washington.Also, that makes him a perfect

person to attribute lots and lots of quotes to, even if he wasn't responsible for

them!My favorite (mis) quote of Osler is, " 90% of the diagnosis is

from the history. " I use that all the time with patients and

students. I checked, and really he said, " If you listen carefully to the

patient they will tell you the diagnosis, " which is actually still

pretty awesome. And, I think that quote can be used quite nicely to support our IMP

efforts. The main thing we can't change is that an hour has only 60 minutes, so we

need to use those minutes in a way so we can " listen carefully to the

patient; " IMP design helps us do that. So, it

might be a stretch, but I'll say it right here -- Sir Osler advocates for
