Guest guest
Juls, I am glad you are catching things early! I was 'dumb' and waited til I almost died from the anemia before getting the help I needed. I had infusions for a couple times after that and then the hemo told me to go back to oral iron like your doing. That lasted about 3 1/2 years, then I needed infusion again. I got a hemo that did the infusion and told me to stop taking oral iron and just keep testing, then have infusion as needed. That was last august. Have not taken oral iron since and my iron is staying on track (knock on wood several times!!). I am also menstrating (and starting possible menopause..ick!). My situation is different, as I am apparently absorbing everything a little better than expected. At least that is what the general surgery department here is telling me. Anyway, I applaud you on getting help and searching for the right answers RIGHT away! You may have to ask for 'second opinion' or something? Or perhaps a hemo that works specifically with bariatric patients? And of course, Dr. K will have some answers for you. Sorry I cant be of more help!
