Guest guest
When did you have surgery? Subject: Thinning HairTo: DS_Friends_Keshishian Date: Friday, December 17, 2010, 7:25 PM Hello, My hair is starting to really thin out in certain areas and I am uncertain about what it might be telling me. I have been taken Folicure for a while now and that does not seem to be working. When I asked my physician about this issue he believes its due to my chronic anemia which I have been dealing with prior to the surgery. So, I am turning to you all for some help. What could my thinning hair be telling me? Is there something that I am lacking? and finally What can I do about this problem? I like my hair and would love to keep what I have (smile). Thanks a million, Kinyata
Guest guest
Hello Debby, it's been about three years, I had surgery in March of 2007. Since then I lost over 130 lbs. Haven't had many complications other than my iron level. So, you take care. Kinyata

Guest guest
I started losing hair after my colon surgery. I went into surgery with a very high B-12 level. I was told to stop taking the B-12 just before I went to the hospital. I didnt start losing hair for about two months after the surgeries (I had 2). So.... I started taking B-12 again, daily. My hair fallout has slowed down considerably. It is now at the 'normal' level of falling out. I have VERY thick hair and it sheds daily, so I can really tell when it starts to fall out too much. It was coming out in HANDFULS. Now it is just the normal 'brushful' . Maybe you should check your B-12 levels? It doesnt hurt to take some and see if it helps. (I am very anemic as well. I get iron infusions about once a year) Hope this helps a little? Anne
Guest guest
Thinning is a natural process after WLS. I believe it is the trauma of having such a changing event in your life that causes the hair to thin/fall out. Most people say it will grow back even better than before or maybe differently than before, but it should grow back. My hair did not thin/fall out after my gastric bypass in '05 or with my DS in '09, but my hair did fall out after a catastrophic viral infection in '95 when i was in ICU for a week and then another week in the hospital. A couple of weeks after I was released my hair started coming out. I even went to a dermatologist to find out why, but then it stopped falling out. It could be a protein deficiency that causes it to thin, but 98% of people do get thinning hair so that is the norm.
Guest guest
Thanks Ann, I will be doing my annual labwork next month so, I will know more about what's going on with me then. My question about the B12 isn't that more fore energy or something. One of my friends think I should take a Zinc tablet and I don't know what exactly that is or how it could help. As for my iron levels, I have always dealt with that issue. I take my prescribed iron pills everyday but honestly I don't think that's working. So, thanks for the advice and take care. Guest guest
Hi Kinyata I too had/have a problem with thinning hair. It had started thinning prior to my WLS. But had reached a point that was ok and had stopped falling out. After the surgery I lost a lot of hair and wore hats until it started coming back in. Now everytime I have a surgery or any kind of anesthesia (sp?) within about 4 months I lose some again. My solution has been high doses of Biotin, I also have used the Hair, Skin and Nails. It seems to help and I really notice it in the areas on the sides of my forehead which will recede. Right now I have about 2-3 inches of growth. I take the Biotin all the time now...thats my solution anyway. I'm curious to see/hear your other solutions that may come up. Good luck, in SLO From: Kinyata yadda78@...To: DS_Friends_Keshishian Sent: Sat, December 18, 203 10 1:17:43 PMSubject: Re: Re: Thinning Hair Thanks Ann, I will be doing my annual labwork next month so, I will know more about what's going on with me then.
