OT: Need help with improving writing

My son is in 2nd grade and diagnosed with ADHD. He is not usually the one I have problems with but this little issue seems to be getting worse. He is not ASD or anything but I know many parents on this board have educational challenges so I figured I'd ask for some suggestions.

He is 8 y/o and he has horrible handwriting and his spelling is beyond bad when he is writing. He gets very good grades on his spelling tests but then misspells everything in his witting. The teacher is doing an SST on him.

He is in 2nd grade. As of right now, he doesn't hate writing and I want to keep it that way. I can't push too hard or he will resist. I need some ideas on some fun 'games' we could play that would require him to think and write. He would have to benefit from writing neatly and spelling correctly. I thought up one game where I give him a topic and he has to write all the words that he can think of that has to do with that topic. It would have to be neat and spelled correctly for him to get 'points'. For example...The topic would be Star Wars (his favorite). He could write ship, stars, clones, droid.... No proper names though.

I personally think that he can write. He is just in a hurry so he does it fast. Since he is ADHD, I think he feels he has to write fast so that he can hurry up and get it on the paper before he forgets what he was going to write. I just have to show him and make him understand that he has to slow down and do it right.
