Guest guest
We are very slowly increasing my daughter's dose of zoloft. What are people's experiences with zoloft and weight gain? My child is already very overweight (some, but not most of it from risperidal, which we've now switched from to abilify). I know that our pdoc does not think that celexa and lexapro are first choice meds for OCD. She prefers the prozac, paxil, zoloft, luvox group. I've been reading about paxil and weight gain. What about zoloft? I'm concerned. Thanks for your help. Miriam in NY
Guest guest
Hi Miriam, my child has been on Zoloft for three years now and has not experienced weight gain. In fact it revved her up a bit to begin with and suppressed her appetite, she lost a couple of pounds, though this side effect did not last beyond a month or so. We give it in the a.m. due to its energizing effect on her. Both Prozac and Zoloft are thought to be energizing, though of course and as ever people do have their individual responses to the various meds. Guest guest
When my daughter first started meds it was zoloft with a little bit of weight gain. When we added risperdal it was an immediate 30lb gain in a month! We have since switched to prozac and geodon. There is still some weight gain, but my daughter never took off the added weight from the risperdal. We are hoping that this summer we can do some kind of exercise program and get some weight off.Good luck,Sue -- On Thu, 24 Apr 2003 14:16:37 miriamgl55 wrote: >We are very slowly increasing my daughter's dose of zoloft. Guest guest
My 12 year old daughter, Hannah, has been taking Zoloft for nine months now. She started with 50 mg and is up to 100 mg. I don't think that she has gained weight on it. She is tall and has hit puberty in a major way (she is very curvy now) but I think that her weight is right for her height.
