Guest guest
" doctors too often do not assist a person/family with letting go. They too often concern themselves with preserving life, seemingly at almost any cost, in terms of suffering, as well as money. " " There are too many doctors who believe everyone wants to remain alive no matter what the cost. If we disagree with such a view, we must have no compunctions about telling a doctor so. " ****** Hi Elliot and Group- I can't let this one go. I agree that there are many physicians either unaware of LBD or uneducated in this type of disease... HOWEVER... The subject of doctors. My mom's group of oncologist's were unbelievable. Very warm, caring and compassionate for life and the struggles my mom was enduring. This was over 21 years ago. Then, my dad had skin cancer, had to have Mole's surgery where layers of skin was shaved away and tested with each layer. The dermatologist doing this surgery was so very caring and gentle with my dad, giving my dad the dignity he deserved as a patient. Also, dad's neurologist always, and I mean, always, called my dad Mr. Lambert. He treated my dad as if he were his own dad, very kind, very patient, and informed my dad of anything and all he was going to do. He stretched his hand out to shake my dad's hand each visit as well. Final doctor was the psychiatrist at the adult psychiatric unit where dad was constantly transferred to. He couldn't have been from earth but more of an angel planted here. I am sure his ethics required him to ask if we wanted IV fluids and/or a feeding tube when my dad made the decision to stop eating, however, this doctor never did push the issue. Instead he supported my decision, since I had P.O.A. and it was my decision for dad. He totally agreed and echoed what I said... " What would we gain? " He knew of the hell dad was living in and that one more day would not be a gain, knowing that is not what my dad wanted. I have to say I have had a few run situations with doctors that weren't pleasant, however, for the most part, I have been very pleased. Maybe it is Iowa doctors...
