Guest guest
Hello everyone! I am writing to ask if anyone knows of a med that has helped with aggressive behavior. I work with an 11 year old boy who is nonverbal and is very aggressive. He is very self abusive and when it hurts him, becomes very aggressive towards others. His parents have tried so many meds with him and he seems to get severe side effects to several of them. He is currently on abilify but it does not seem to be helping the aggression and he does not want to eat now. He was on a high dose of risperadol but again seemed agitated and aggressive and wanted to do nothing but eat on this med. I feel his parents are very frustrated at this point and are open to any other suggestions from anyone who has had a good experience with this type of behavior. He needs pressure on his head at all times or he hits himself in the face. This makes bath or shower time very difficult also as he becomes very aggressive at this point. He is also going into puberty which may be elevating his aggression. Does anyone have any suggestions? Kim
Guest guest
Geodon. do a google search on this and I think they have a website and I might of posted it the other day. The subject line was geodon I think. There is no weight gain or eating issues on this med like the risperdal What has the child been on since stopping Risperdal? it is possible that the behaviors got worse after that or still the same? my son is nonverbal and turns 12 at the end of June and puberty is here, all he does it touch himself and the other day at the grocery store he actually put his hands down his pants. While walking to school from parking lot his hand is on his private area. I need to do some google searches on this to find some pics to help with this behavior. Guest guest
I helped a family who had the same issue with their post pubescent son. After many attempts to shape the behavior we finally resolved it by cutting the inside part of his front pockets out of his pants which allowed him access to his private are without having to stick his hands down the front of his pants. Though remember that each child is different and you may want to try other techniques before trying this. Troy B. Re: meds to help with aggressive behaviors or self injury?? Guest guest
Has anyone ever had a child " hump the floor".. My 7 year old is doing this and when I catch him and stop him he gets upset and is embarrassed but wont stop doing it.. He is not aggressive has some language and is a beginning reader. He is not all the way potty trained ( well, he holds his poops, but is totally trained for urine) and I feel me may be using this as a way to help him hold poop....?troy brant wrote: I helped a family who had the same issue with their post pubescent son. Guest guest
Is he on Risperdal? I have read of parents with kids on that med who experience early puberty. Girls getting their periods at 9. Could this be the reason? Bonnie Sayers http://autismspectrumdisorders.bellaonline.com ================= --- Trent wrote: > Has anyone ever had a child " hump the floor " .. Guest guest
Thanks for the tip. My son only wears pro spirit or adidas pants. These are stretch waist with the drawstring. For many years he would play with the string and the aide back then said he was playing with himself. SO I started keeping the string out of the pants and then he would come home with it tied in a knot. I was going to do a google search on jock straps. I am wondering if I had my son wear one would this curtail the time he spends touching himself? Guest guest
Whenever my son wears pants that are soft or knit, he plays with himself. I still cannot put him in sweat pants for this reason. I use thicker cotton pants, like denim, that are not stretchy and we do not have that problem now. When he was younger, he couldn't button and zip his pants. Back then, J.C. Penney's made boys pants with a velcro closure (for the button) and had a zipper. My son would just pull these up. They were cotton and they looked like the other kids clothes and he fit in just fine. They were cotton and a non-stretching fabric. Years ago, he used to rub himself on his desk. He had a great teacher that year and to remedy that, she put his desk up on a couple of blocks and that stopped that. I thought that was pretty creative. Guest guest
That is good to know, thanks for the tips. I think this problem will stop soon at school since he goes on to Middle school and they have uniforms, so the pants are different. The issue I am worried about are the shirts for winter as they are tight fitting ones or button down white shirts.
