Extreme dizziness? Back pain?

Hi, all.

I would greatly appreciate comments on two of the worst symptoms my

MIL experiences.

First of all, there is constant dizziness. At times it is severe

enough that she just has to stay home---can't go to church, can't go

visiting---simply debilitated.

I have read that the sense of balance is off in people with LBD, so

they are at risk for falling, but I have not read that they suffer

from dizziness---the kind of feeling in which it feels like the room

is spinning. Comments, please?

Also, my MIL has has serious back pain. Is this a common symptom, as

well?

Actually, I have suffered back pain myself when I've spent time in

bed because of bronchitis attacks. It seems as if the back muscles

quickly, over a period of just a couple of days of bed rest, become

knotted, or sore, and the pain can be considerable.

That reminds me--- I read a NASA study once---one that was done to

see what kind of physical deterioration astronauts would suffer from

being cooped up in a space capsule. The study showed that very

considerable bone and muscle deterioration happened during the FIRST

24 hours of lying prone in bed. In fact, if I remember correctly, the

MOST deterioration took place during the first 24 hours!

Hi, Stevie,

Thank you for the suggestion. In fact, she did have an MRI just a

couple of months ago, and the neurologist said pretty much the same

thing the doctor said about your Uncle---brain too small for her age.

He was very kind, because, while he told my wife that her mom's brain

is shrinking, he told my MIL " You have a small brain, " something less

worrisome to her than if he'd told her her brain is shrinking.

I think we have checked all the possible non-LBD causes for the

dizziness because we took her to a doctor who specializes in vertigo,

and he found nothing. I will mention the wax build-up possibility to

my wife, but I should think that's one of the very first things a

doctor would check in someone complaining of frequent/constant

dizziness.

Thanks for your reply!

Elliot-

My dad suffered with both of these symptoms. I remember

he would tell me the room was spinning and the walls were

moving. Also, with the visual spacial issues, he would

just topple over.

Also, my dad had severe back pain. I always attributed it

to his story of when he was a little boy and a classmate

pulled the chair out from underneath him as he was sitting

down. My dad's back pain was so severe that it would

make his legs go numb. Worse in the morning, that's

for sure. He would have to lay there and will himself out

of bed every morning. Because of the numbing in his

legs he had to be careful...not to fall...and when the room

is spinning, the walls are moving...see the hell he was in!!

Thanks for asking and for letting us know these are symptoms

of your MIL Elliot.
