Mel,

It sounds as if you body might have gone into starvation mode to me as you

have cut down so drastically - my advise to you is to eat small regular meals

and not cut down too much on the protein.

Ok.. call me stupid???? Where on earth do I get more protien from. I have been told to cut my dairy intake down to as little as possible... Once a day... and cut the cheese back to absolute mininimal. I am unable to eat meat in the form of steak or chops, it just ain't going through. Mince is ok... boring every damned night. Have been told I am having too much fish, I am having tuna and fresh fish at least once a day... so maybe I can cut that back a bit.

As I said, call me stupid but where else do I get protien from?.. I know it is something I should know, my mind is a blank this arvo. And I can start of fruit, but how long does it take to eat one apple... I have tried that, it was fermenting into cider before my eyes with the amount of time it was taking.

Sorry I am sounding so negative, I am very frustrated and a little bit lost I think.

I know, Yum Cha ~ yum but bad! I would not have thought that the six or so mouthfuls that I had in an hour and half would have made that much difference when it was the only thing I ate between dinner the night before and 1pm yesterday!!! Six weeks ago I would have had six BOWLS full!!!! And a few wines to boot, followed by the Chinese custard!!! And then a hardly any dinner due to the pain I get in the evenings!!!!

Go Figure!

Mel,

People are going to reply regardless of what you say.

We've all been where you're at. We all want it to come off now.

I have the same thoughts as you. How when you eat so little do you

not lose weight. I am losing about 1kg a month. Yes 1kg per

month. To me that's not great loss considering what I have to lose.

I often wonder what more I can do. I eat like a sparrow. I go to

curves 4 times a week. Since my last fill dinner is no longer an

option for me...I block at nights now. Strange I know, because most

people block in the morning and can eat alot at night. So I really

only have one meal a day. I try and have optifast or tf for dinner.

I could go completely snack free but I would start obsessing about

what I couldn't have. And what fun would that be. I didn't get a

band to be diet obsessed, I did that for too long, I got it to

be 'normal'.

If my weight comes off slowly then so be it. At least its coming

off. And its better than the alternative.

Kisses Rochelle

ps I think your dietician is an idiot. *grin*

I understand the frustration; however you have only just started the journey. You have just come off the two weeks fluids and two weeks of mush. Those weeks are about healing and not weight loss, so getting down to it – this is your first week post op that you are on the journey. You don't have any fill and only limited restriction. You have to understand that the dietician has no concept of what you are going thru. They are only knowledgeable from what they read in text books – there is no real life first hand experience there in dealing with the band.

You are just beginning to exercise, your walking is short and slow at present but that is only going to increase with your weight loss in the future. You are eating well rounded meals in the main. All along I have been told that with the band you are not on a diet!

Smaller portions = fewer calories = weight loss – perhaps I have over simplified this but to my way of thinking you will start to loose soon, patience grasshopper.

Rochelle... I know, everyone answers anyway LOL!!!

I don't think "the thin one" is an idiot (little laugh and maybe I could be wrong!!), but, when I told her what I had eaten for the last two days, it took up only about 5 lines... and she said that it was probably too much and I could survive on less. It flabergasted me I suppose, because it is literally about 1/8 of what I would have eaten pre-band.

And to say I was having too much dairy was quite surprising considering I have probably 3 small serves a day.

Oh well... I suppose I am just going to have to "hang in there" for a little longer.

One good thing... the lovely other surgeon in the practise (mine is away on hols at the moment - not easy with Andi away as well ~ boo hoo to me I say)... had to have a look at a scar on me today as it had a bit of the internal stitch stuff hanging out. He had a bit of a dig and removed it. Sorry, rambling again.... he has offered to see see me Monday and see if he can get a fill in for me. It was probably worth the few tears in front of him. He may not be able to hit the target, but I am prepared for him to have a go for me. The radiologist at the hospital is now off for two weeks as well... so no fills in radiology!!!

Thanks for your lovely note... it give me hope. I suppose that 1 kilo a month disappearing is better than the 1 kilo a month that seemed to find me.

I am having 2 eggs every second day... I was getting a bit bored of them. I was doing a scramble or an omlette with a bit of smoked salmon or shredded ham. Fish, fresh barra (smallish piece) from the markets (craig works next door ~ bonus) on the bbq wrapped in foil. Baked beans... was told that they were too easy to eat and not to rely on them for protien all the time. But they are still getting a showing every 2nd day... they are yummy.

We will just keep plodding along, I will "hang in there" for another few weeks and see how I go, and I will keep a food diary for my own benefit... that's a good idea. But I am hungry, how do I stop the hunger and the grazing??? Its going to take a longer than I hoped to change a lifetime of bad habits. Like the smoking, I came home today and would have smoked a packet in an hour if there were any here! Lucky my daughter was at college so I couldn't grab hers.

>Hi Mel

Since my third fill I have had trouble getting enough protein, mainly

because most meats just get stuck. I have discovered that scrambled

eggs with cruskits ( just put a small amount on the cruskit at a time

or it goes soggy ) is yummy, I had stopped eating eggs because I

couldn't tolerate the toast and didn't want to eat them on their own.

Pate with crackers is yummy too. And Lentl soup is gorgeous and I

always have plenty left to freeze which is helpful when I get caught

out. I think Chriss and Mimi were saying the same thing earlier.

There are 3 protein options anyway, hope it helps !! I too am like

Maree in that the scales stay put for ages and then off they go again.

Hang in there " it won't happen over night - but it will happen ! "

Hugs

Hi Mel,

This is Mel from Bathurst and I was just reading about your visit and

I also wanted to remind you that giving up smoking could also be

having an affect on your weight loss. A lot of people gain weight

whilst quitting not just from compensating with eating but also

because your metabolism slows without that nicotine hit each day. I

quit 3 years ago and that is where my severe weight problems came

from, (before that I had been comfortably overweight for years) and I

can tell you that I did not eat that much more while giving up. Even

my 'thin' girlfriends battled weight wise when they were quitting so I

think you are doing really well to not be putting any weight on! I

know it is no consolation but you are doing two major things at once

and I think you should be so proud of yourself. Not many people could

do what you have done!

Hoping for a better day tomorrow, Mel.

I asked if I could have a little smear of pate on cruskits and was told absolutely NOT!

Hi Raewyn

What is your recipe for Lentil soup or can you buy it

preprepared somewhere? I read last night that it's

lots of iron which I am lacking at the moment.

Thanks

less than 1/2 what you used to eat and have stopped smoking cold turkey -

no wonder it is protesting!!!! Give up the good work, i think you are amazing
