Guest guest
Hello all, I'm a new member and I wanted to introduce myself, my situation and hopefully find someone with similarities. I am the mother of a 10 year old girl with MAJOR – MAJOR - OCD, it developed two summers ago and the biggest obstacle we're having in trying to manage some of her rituals or compulsions is the fact that she has many other neruo / physiological issues. The principal of which is the fact that she is autistic and has very limited speech. Her Dr. even commented that she displays more rituals than she has ever seen before, I'm not exaggerating when I say she performs thousands a day, they consume the majority of her waking hours. It's very disheartening to watch your baby so frustrated and confused, and other than medications I'm at a loss as to how to help her with her limited verbal skills. Currently she is taking Prozac (about 6 months now) which helped tremendously with the panic attacks she was having but hasn't touched the OCD, her Dr hopes it will once she reaches the right therapeutic dosage but for now nothing. She is only taking 8.5 mg right now because she had such an extreme reaction to the Ablify we tried last year (really horrific experience). She just started taking Seroquel with a very low dosage as well, only 2 mg (1/4 of that tiny little pill) she has been taking the Seroquel since the 11th. She slept through the night for the first week and seemed very " high " lots of giggles and silliness but then became more aggressive, biting everything insite, including herself. Her arm is covered in bruises. My husband wants me to cold turkey her but I'm going to wait and call the Dr Monday, at such a low dose I'm sure it would be all right to stop but I just want to be sure. She doesn't react well to any antipsychotics I guess ;-( So that's my story in a nut shell, I was just hoping someone could give me advice on medications and offer up any suggestions for ways to calm her when she gets " stuck " in a ritual. Thanks for having me in your group, I look forward to getting to know you all. Theresa - aka, Sonja's mom
