Guest guest
Does your daughter receive SSI? I would start there. Apply for SSI - you can begin the process over the telephone. Go to http://www.socialsecurity.gov/d & s1.htm It can be a long and arduous process but will provide Medicaid benefits if she is approved. She will be evaluated by a psychologist as part of the approval process. **************A Good Credit Score is 700 or Above. See yours in just 2 easy steps! Guest guest
, Check into Emory - it has a fantistic autistic center, and they also have the sliding scale paying - so maybe it won't be so expensive to get tested there. Just one question, after all these years - none of the doctors that your daughter has seen has never said that she had a problem and that it could possibly be autism? (I'm just wondering)
Guest guest
Thanks so much ! I was hoping to find some place that does the sliding scale! 26 years ago, nobody had heard of Autism. No doctor or school system ever said anything to me about my daughter other than she was not doing good in school. (grades) It's sad that we have went this long without "knowing" what was wrong. However, now that we do we can go forward.Take care,Subject: Re: New member needing directionTo: autism-georgia Date: Tuesday, February 10, 2009, 10:49 AM , Check into Emory - it has a fantistic autistic center, and they also have the sliding scale paying - so maybe it won't be so expensive to get tested there. Guest guest
, Well I would defintely call them and see what they can do! I went to a doctor - Dr. Hobbs in Loganville - and we had my 21 month old tested - it cost us 300 - wishing you the best of luck - and your daughter! Guest guest
$300 is much better than the amt we were charged at Emory! we've used them for toilet training issues, initial screening and for testing. All our experiences were good with the exception of the testing - it took 8+ months to get the reports back and once we got them we were really underwhelmed with the content. andi Subject: Re: New member needing directionTo: autism-georgia Date: Tuesday, February 10, 2009, 4:45 PM , Well I would defintely call them and see what they can do! Guest guest
Andi, Well we still haven't gotten our reports back - I think we had a good doctor - I know people on here have used Dr. Hobbs - the thing I wasn't impressed with was that there really wasn't any other guidance on what we should do next - maybe that is the norm? I don't know. I'll have to remember about the toliet training issues - do you still go to Emory now?
Guest guest
we didn't get any follow up planning from Emory either. i think they offer care planning sessions in their family program but they really didn't sell it very well or do much to encourage us to follow up with the family program. at this point i'm still mad about the report so i can't see taking my girls back to emory for anything. once i get over being mad we might use them again the potty training session was 3 - 4 hours at ther facility. we had a masters level psych person with us the whole time. she gave us lots of good ideas for potty training, incidental teaching, play groups, etc...it took another 6 - 8 months for us to get to the point where we will now say the girls are potty trained, but the techniques we learned at emory were really helpful. during our assessment day we had a chance to observe their walden school program and i wasn't very impressed with that...good thing since the waiting list is about 4 years long!
