Guest guest
Sure. Asperger's is hard to pin down. My daughter was not diagnosed with it until she was in middle school and we only pursued it then because of accommodations at school. I suspect her doctors had an idea she probably had it because none of them were surprised when the diagnosis came in. Kelley in NV **************Get trade secrets for amazing burgers. Guest guest
Hi, quick answer, only have a moment now. But YES, child can have empathy. As to voice, my son's is " normal " but some children do have a sort of flat/monotone, less emotion, so I read. Each person is different. With empathy it may be that they aren't picking up on social cues/other's emotions but they *can* have it; some kids don't relate in this way though. And they CAN be social and try to be, it's just they have difficulty. Some kids are less social, not interested. As I said, each is different. Guest guest
Hi all, I tend to lurk a bit...sorry about that. Just as regards Asperger's, my son was diagnosed with it just over a year ago. He also has OCD. He has lots of empathy with others, he is always worrying about others and his voice isn't flat either. As says different kids can have different symtoms and different degrees. We had a meeting with other parents of children with Asperger's and where most of the children were agressive, our lad isn't. On other things though they were the same ie not giving eye contact and having to have a routine. Guest guest
My daughter has been diagnosed with OCD first and then a few months later with Asperger's Syndrome. My son is ADHD, and Asperger's. I felt many symptoms overlaped with all three. Her voice is always loud, my son's voice more robotic. As for all the questions about bi-polar, several times the therapist and psychiatrist have mentioned some of her behaviors almost seem manic. I think they are kind of watching her. She did seem to become more agressive, in some ways after meds. Before it was more about rubbing off germs and being afraid of anyone touching her. Of course her agessive behaviors come and go and get worse and then better again. She currently takes Zoloft 100 mg, Geodon 20 mg am, 40 mg pm Focalin 10 mg am and at noon Benedryl at night The doctor wanted to add another med, Limictal for the skin picking, but, I felt it wasn't severe enough to warrent another heavy duty med. Also, I've wondered if some behaviors are side effects of the medicine and since bi-polar has been mentioned a few times, not diagnosed, I've wondered if any of these meds can activate that. We've actually had about a month of calm time. No scarey thoughts either which is another big struggle. All in all, she's WAY better than she was in 2/05 when we started down this road, she just has ups and downs as I know all kids with mental health issues seem to. Guest guest
Hi Darletta, My dd was first diagnosed with OCD, than ADHD, than Bipolar, than they added PDD-NOS. I feel as though all of these symptoms seem to overlap the other. Every doctor I take my dd to will say something different. Sometimes they say she has OCD and PDD-NOS only, or she only has Bipolar. They always give me a different combiantions of diagnosis's. I've really been trying to do research, especially on the autism. My dd has a very hard time with social skills, and has eye contact pretty much only with family, but other than that she sounds and looks like everybody else. She has always done rocking movements since infancy, but does them only when she is in her room now.I can't seem to find too much to support the pdd-nos diagnosis, unless this is all you need for it. As far as what I have read, if your dd IS bipolar, be careful with the Focalin, Zoloft, and benadryl, because they can all be activating. I have also found that if your child does not have Bipolar and is on Geodon, be careful of other side effects that can cause the ocd to become worse. It seems like lately, we all have so many unanswered questions. I wonder if it's me or the doctors(lol) Hugs Judy
