Link to OC Foundation OCD meds for children, mentions Anafranil and others,

includes side effects:

, if the Paxil worked well until it " pooped out " /quit working, ask your

doc tomorrow what he would think of prescribing the Paxil again with a small

dose of another SSRI as an augmentation. This strategy has worked well for

my child.

Anafranil is a good solid med though that is used in children. It was one

of the first anti-obsessional meds used to treat OCD, but has potentially

more side effects than the newer SSRIs so that's why it's not usually

prescribed until someone has failed several SSRI trials. My understanding

is that it is *not* an SSRI (slows reuptake of seratonin only) but instead

affects other neurotransmitters as well such as dopamine.

Also, if your child is really struggling right now, you might consider

letting her teachers know about this and perhaps request reduced homework

until she is stabilized on meds. She no doubt needs her rest right now more

than she needs to do homework, especially if it is an ordeal for her with

her increased OCD.

Take care,

Kathy R. in Indiana
