Guest guest
I am fairly sure the warnings are due to salmonella issues on COMMERCIAL sprouts, which would not be an issue with home grown, provided you keep your sprouter clean and avoid cross contamination in your own kitchen. The warnings would be erring on the side of caution. Subject: sprouts during pregnancy To: sproutpeople Date: Monday, May 2, 2011, 5:28 PM  Hi, I had a pregnant lady ask me what my thoughts were on eating sprouts during pregnancy. I told her I was never told to stay away from them when I was pregnant, but then again every doctor tells you different things. She was told to stay away from any uncooked sprout (especially since the recent problem with alfalfa sprouts in Cali.). I've been researching it a little and most of the research says to stay away. I find very little on sprouts being OK during pregnancy. Any thoughts? Thanks, Summer
Guest guest
Summer, the 'recent problem with alfalfa sprouts in Ca.', was not really recent, and it had nothing to do with sprouts grown at home. ew sprouts during pregnancy Hi, I had a pregnant lady ask me what my thoughts were on eating sprouts during pregnancy. Guest guest
I would tell her to avoid commerical sprouts. But, she can sprout her own seeds and know that she has used clean water in the process and eat her sprouts with confidence. The problem with contaminated commerical sprouts is with the (filthy) water used. She would also beware of " prewashed " greens...same problem.
