Guest guest
- For pain my Dad took Choline Mag Trisal 750 mg. twice daily. This drug is not to be taken with Aspirin unless ordered by a physician. Taking it routinely increases the effectiveness. We also gave Tylenol 1000 mg. every 6 hours as needed between doses. Another drug that helped him was Lidocaine ointment, which we rubbed topically on his knees and that seemed to help, esp. before getting out of bed. Can be used 3 times daily. I had a stiff neck once and tried it and let me tell you there was instant relief. My Dad was very sensitive to meds, but these meds did not cause any hallucination, agitation or sedation. I hope this helps. Gerry Wilmington, De. Painkillers Question for the Group: Off and on my mother complains of general pain. On her last visit to her geriatrician he told us that pain/stiffness was a symptom of LBD and also a side effect of the drugs (either Aricept or Seroquel, maybe both) that Mum is taking. Mum had a bad reaction to Sinemet and the doctor does not want ot give her any medication of that ilk (ie PD type meds) because of that. As usual one always thinks of questions right after you leave the doctors office. I thought I would see what this group advises. When Mum complains about pain, can she be given Aspirin (she does take a baby dose every day), Acetaminaphin, or Ibuprofin??? Any one have any bad reactions? I will call her geriatrician but I thought I would try here first. --------------------------------- Find your next car at Yahoo! Guest guest
Hi Hope you are well. My MIL is on seroquel, she sometimes complains of pains in different areas. I watch to see if for a day if anything worsens or not. Usually within a couple of hours she is not complaining anymore. I definitely see this as part of her LBD, maybe also because of seroquel, didn't know this before.MIL is on oxycontin 10 mg at bedtime because of a compression fracture in her spine. She also gets one regular strength acetaminophin three times a day. She is fine with this, however I wonder sometimes if it isn't part placebo. She is doing very well these days. Now for a laugh or two. Yesterday when I asked her what my last name was, she said she didn't know, thought about it, then questioned if it was " Haynes " . I said yes and she responded that Dave Haynes (her former husband)sure put out a lot of kids!! She also told the homecare worker yesterday that she wasn't able to have anymore kids! I found her to be a bit more spacy yesterday, yet still pleasant. Take care, > > Question for the Group: > > Off and on my mother complains of general pain. Guest guest
Hi , My mom also complains a lot about aching legs or arms. She gets Tylenol regular strength and it doesn't seem to be hurting her. She also takes the baby aspirin every day on doctor'sorders and no problem. Hope that helps. Guest guest
over the counter tube of neosporin plus has a mild pain relief in it, that might work it does numb up and i know it works, no offense meant but when my dog had surgery and was licking her wounds incessantly the vet suggsted neosporin plus, good antibiotic plus the numbing medicine would numb her tongue and she would be so busy trying to figure out where he tongue went that the wound healed well. just a thought hugs sharon m ps my animals are myh kids, lol Date: 2005/10/21 Fri PM 01:23:24 EDT To: LBDcaregivers Subject: Painkillers Thank you Gerry, Jan, , Sandie, Sharon, & Doris Thanks so much for your replies. Can't remember who suggested the Lidocaine Ointment - I am going to talk to Mum's GP about it when we are there in December (looks like it needs a prescription). In the meantime I am going to look for an OTC analgesic ointment of some kind. I can't believe I did not think of that earlier -we get so used to pills (don't we?). We may also try a little Tylenol the next time Mum seems to be really hurting. We will keep the dose small as Mum has taken almost nothing for pain in years and we certainly don't want to give her too much. Again - thanks for all the advice. Love & blessings Welcome to LBDcaregivers.
