Guest guest
I have 10 doses of Prevnar. No Hib yet, still waiting to get pricing from the drug company. Prevnar is $83/per dose, that's what I paid. I carry minimal pediatric vaccines. How many Prevnar would you need? It's a brand new box that I just received. I can spare at least half the doses. Thanks! I have 8 doses of DTaP, pediatric dose, expiring June 2009. Anyone want it? Just pay me $15 to ship it fridged and it's yours. Guest guest
Dear nancy and other colleagues: My Husband, Dr Krishna (family medicine) and I (med peds) have a small practice. We are planning to see peds patients in the office but not give vaccines in the office.I am concerned if I see a child in our office and refer to elsewhere for vacciones, would there be any medical liability? . Since I am a pediatrician , I still love to see small kids . We noticed it is going to be tough to give and maintain vaccines. Do I have to take any signed document from patient to do this. Thanks for your help. Dr Chenna > I have 8 doses of DTaP, pediatric dose, expiring June 2009. Anyone want > it? Just pay me $15 to ship it fridged and it's yours. Guest guest
As long as you can give parents a reliable place to get vaccines, you are not going to have any trouble. Our county health department is wonderful, convenient, always sends documentation of what they administered, and will always make sure they get the immunization records from me first before administering any vaccines.Following up with parents to make sure it happened is key. Just use some kind of reminder/tickler for that. There is no law I know of that says a pysician must administer vaccines of any kind ot any patient. Group, any comments? Guest guest
Regarding whether physicians are required by law to give amy vaccines, no, but Aetna wouldn't credential me to be a PCP for children because I'm not giving the children's vaccines on site. At first they were going to deny me as a participating physician altogether, but I talked them into letting me take care of folks over 18, because I do keep dT, TdaP, influenza, and Pneumovax on hand. They found out about my policy because it was in the contract under a section of requirements for primary care physicians that they would verify by a site visit that I " provided all age-appropriate immunizations. " I called to question it and explain my IMP situation and that set off the fireworks. If I had it to do again, I would have not brought it up and, if questioned, said that I do provide the MEANS for getting the imms, by sending pts with a request letter to the county health dept. Interestingly, none of the other insurers cared about the issue, and Aetna told me they have allowed other docs in underserved areas to do this, but they didn't think my area was underserved enough, even though I'm the only doctor in a tiny rural village! BTW, I do feel it is only fair to notify parents of my vaccine policy before accepting primary responsibility for their children.---Sharlene in NY > > I have 8 doses of DTaP, pediatric dose, expiring June 2009.
