Guest guest
: Are you saying that someone told you that carbonated beverages contribute to cancer? I don't drink them because I don't like carbonated anything, but not because of any health risk. Never heard of this. I DID HEAR on the news the other day that kissing someone can give you cavities. I didn't wait for the news clip to appear. I gather it must have something to do with the saliva or something like that. I mean, it HAD to have been related to that because that's what happens when people kiss. They share saliva. So if the saliva is acidic, maybe THATS' why people get cavities. I can just hear the people now who watched that news clip saying; " You mean I can't kiss anyone anymore?? Guest guest
I'm with you Melody on the sugar thing - although I have a sweet tooth. Thing is, diet sodas have no sugar but still have phosphoric acid and so they are bad for your teeth too. And now they've come out with the news that DIET soda increases your chances for strokes. *sigh* I am a " recovering diet soda addict " . Carbonated or sparkling water would not have phosphoric acid. So those would be fine too because they have neither the acid or sugar. I don't know about seltzer since I've never been able to stand the taste. The sugar in milk is why parents shouldn't let babies who are old enough to hold their own bottles go to bed with bottles of milk since the sugar in the milk " sits " on their teeth all through the night and can cause cavities in their baby teeth. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > =========================================== > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Bonnie , > > > > > > > > Yah I have seen the ionizers that cost as much as my car. Guest guest
Thanks for the welcome! Yes, you are right - just plain carbonated water and/or sparkling water don't have phosphoric acid so wouldn't be a cause for concern on either that front or the sugar thing. And I know what you mean about loving cola. One of my New Year's resolutions was to quit Diet Coke. I used to drink at least a 6-pack a day. But I managed it by switching over to different fun and flavorful teas. Not necessarily saving me any money but I know that the teas I'm drinking are WAY better for me than the " colored water " . I collect frogs. I even used to have two live ones. They were fun to watch but keeping them supplied with live crickets was too much of a hassle. And it drove my cats crazy! > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > =========================================== > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Bonnie , > > > > > > > > > > > > Yah I have seen the ionizers that cost as much as my car. Guest guest
Melody, actually not, if it has carbon dioxide - which is the carbonation, it is acid. I did an experiment at home, we have a soda stream machine (makes seltzer). I took my tap water a 7.0 pH and made seltzer and the seltzer was a 4.0 pH, then I took my alkaline ionized water with a pH of 9.5 and made seltzer and it was also a 4.0. As soon as you add carbonation to water you create an acid drink. When you add sugar to it the pH then goes lower, coke is a 2.5 pH Carbonation of any kind strips calcium from your bones. Good thing we're doing the right thing with all the wheat grass and sprouting Spring blessings everyone Bonnie > > > I am absolutely 100% SURE HE MEANT SODA WITH SUGAR. Guest guest
KC, welcome to the group. Are you really a frog? ew Re: water and wheat grass Might he also have been referring to the phosphoric acid in most sodas? Phosphoric acid erodes your teeth. Hi all! New here in the group. I've been lurking for a few days and already I feel like I " know " several of you. ;-) I've just decided to start getting serious about sprouting. Had my first shot of wheat grass juice a week or so ago and I actually liked it. I have the equipment and seed waiting for me when I get home! I'm SO excited - but I know I will have a LOT of questions for the group. Guest guest
Acid seems to be something of a scare word, but we need to know that there are strong acids and weak ones (and obviously some in between). Hyrdochloric and sulphuric acids are both strong, acetic acid (the one in vinegar) is medium, while fruit acids like citric (lemon, etc.) and tartaric (grapes) are weak and harmless. Carbonic acid is a weak acid, and we are expelling carbon dioxide (carbonic acid ) every time we breathe out, so I would be very surprised if carbonated water has any health disadvantages. I have used a Sodastream for many years and love the fact that I can use natural products to flavour the carbonated water (and of course stevia for sweetening). You can also (with some care and effort) turn your wine fizzy if that's how you like it (I do sometimes.)
