Hi,

I have a 10yr old with Aspergers. Thought I have fouoght for an IEP or 504, he

does not have one because the district (unionville chadds ford) felt that he did

not show need based on his academic performance. He is currently in 4th Grade

and he his not performing as well as in the past. He had gotten a few C's and

my son is getting very anxious about taking test and how well he is performing

on those tests. Keep in mind that he prides himself on doing well at school.

When he got the c's, he started complaining that he wasn't smart anymore and his

self esteem is low.

When I try to get to the bottom of why he is not doing well, he says he cannot

focus and he does NOT understand the questions being asked such as in math word

problems or reading exams. He says he gets confused. Up till now, reading and

math has been his strongest subject and currently he is not performing as well

on either. Do you believe that his diagnosis is finanly catching up to him? He

has difficulty making multiple inferences and learning new vocabulary. He also

has problems with focusing and attention. Is it possible that his diagnosis is

affecting his reading comprehension? If so, how does an aspie diagnosis affect

reading comprehension? The school has agreed to have an IST meeting to discuss

this. I do not know what an IST meeting is and I am not sure what I can request

or not request at that meeting? Anyone have any ideas?
