Guest guest
Sharon owns this group. I have not been able to get in touch with her for a while. It seems her Yahoo account is bouncing. So I am developing the art of patience while waiting for her to notice. I am the moderator. I am restricted in what I can do, basically to approving new members and being able to change some for the settings for email, etc. I can't unsubscribe people, or change any policies, etc. But, within those limits, what can I do for you? KEvin  Who actually "owns" this group and do we have an admin or moderator? If so, can one of them please email me or post here to identify themselves...Thanks a bunch :-) No virus found in this message. Guest guest
I agree. I don't even open a certain someone's posts. ANNOYING!!! I've already taken steps to block a member for spamming my yahoo email account. Is there a way to do something similar in here?Yes, Carly, I'm finding the " normalizing " posts to be ignorant, offensive and harassing, especially, since I'm receiving one-on-one emails sent to my personal acct too. Since, I haven't responded to the initial email/sales pitch, I certainly didn't expect to be pestered again. I thought other members had already made it clear that a constant barrage of advertising posts were not welcome...>> I hope the intention of your inquiry is to eliminate sales pitches within this group. Guest guest
I am reconsidering the amount of posts that can be considered 'reasonable' for promoting a product that some here may find useful. I will get back to everyone on that when I have had some more thought. There are only a couple of people who seem to have trouble with knowing when enough is enough. I will pay more attention to such posts in the future. I am not sure what to do about people making personal contact. If requested, it is certainly encouraged. It was always hoped that personal friendships might develop in the group, that then existed outside the group. BUT, unwelcome contact is a different matter. There was never any intention for this group to become a way of getting email addresses to then promote services. If anyone has a service that is of benefit to members, post about it in the group, not to individuals. I would happily remove anyone who does that, because it is against the purpose of this group, and I suspect also contravenes Yahoo rules. But, I don't have the authority to ban or remove anyone. All I can suggest is that you let Yahoo know if you are being harassed by someone else here.  All I can do is set the person to 'moderated' which means I have to approve each post. If you want to make private contact with any other member, please post here asking permission first. Then the person can respond if they want to. [moderator]  , I understand - thanks for the rapid response. Guest guest
Why don't you have this authority? I am moderator of another Yahoo group and I most definitely have the authority (and ability through the moderator interface) to block someone from the group, put them on moderation, etc. Is there something in the way the group was originally set up that keeps you from having these same options? Even if it wasn't set up that way initially, I believe there are ways to change that after the fact if it proves necessary. Guest guest
It is up to the owner what authority s/he grants to moderators. I moderate a number of groups. In some I can do anything the owner can do, in others I can do very little. It always seems to be the latter where the owner goes MIA. In one group there are two moderators, we have contacted Yahoo a number of times, and the only response we get is to get in touch with the owner and ask her to change it. If we could do that, we wouldn't waste our time bothering Yahoo. The owner has not be seen or heard from in 5 years.  Why don't you have this authority? Guest guest
I am so sorry that you have to deal with this. Simply deleting and strongly reminding this Doctor that the posts are more appreciated without the sales pitches should eventually work.
