Guest guest
Secondly, when I found theStill's site last year, I told her to go to it. What she read into the sitewas that the disease would probably kill her at a young age. I don't thinkshe wants to face that. So, I joined hoping that you all could lend supportor give some advice when needed as what to do. I felt that way as well when I was first diagnosed - forgotten about that! I remember when I read about the side effects of prednisone I just about began planning my funeral. 7 years later, and many days almost being a normal person (whatever that is), I am grateful beyond words for this wonderful group. It's helped me so much when no one else could tell me what I'd be going thru, help me with what I've gone thru and give me hope. I remember when our Althea went on her Arthritis walk - I was pretty new at the time and that gave me more hope than I can tell you - to be able to take part in an event that even "well" people can't do! Nothing wrong with that! My prayers are with you and your family - my family wanted to know nothing about what I go thru - you are indeed a blessing to her, believe me! Guest guest
Greetings, Joe! Welcome to Stilligan's Island! When I first became ill in late January, 2004, I feared that my journey to the here-after was not far away. I spent a great deal of time dreading the future and feeling desperately hopeless. I, too, spent nearly a month in the hospital and was subjected to daily tests until a rhuematologist joined the team of doctors observing me. I had a left Thoracotomy, during which the extent of my internal tissue damage was discovered. I won't bore you with details, but the fear I experienced through that ordeal was nearly unbearable. Looking back now, I can see that my fear was fueled mostly by lack of knowledge, little faith, and absence of acceptance. I didn't want to believe that ANY of this had happened, or that I was sick with a rare disease, or that my life had just changed dramatically. All of that was part of someone else's life, not mine! Slowly, I learned that all of that was, is, and will continue to be part of my life. Acceptance is what allows us to find new ways to live, no matter how much we dislike certain parts of this reality we call life. As the saying goes, the Truth will set you free. The Serenity prayer comes in handy for me on a daily basis as well. It took several months to recover from my surgery, and my doctors and I are trying to reach a desirable level of medication for me, but I have to remember that my body is in charge, and I have to listen to it. I continue to have flares, and the weather has an impact on my physical well-being. But I'm telling you, Joe, I REFUSE to let this disease keep me down. I'll LET it have its days, but the REST are MINE! I hope I have helped. Tell your daughter that we need her as much as she needs us Have a great day, and God Bless!
