Guest guest
Okay, Melody has been reading all the posts about quinoa and quinoa flour and I just went online to see if I could use quinoa in place of, let's say, I want to bread some chicken or some fish. I don't do that because I don't do white flour. But if I COULD do white flour, I'd dredge the fish or chicken in white flour, dip in egg, dip in Panko crumbs, and either bake it or fry it. But I do this recipe and just leave out the flour part. So can I do the following: Buy a box of ready to use quinoa (no rinsing required). Can I then put the quinoa in my food processor (or coffee grinder) and grind it to flour. Then can I use this ANY TIME I NEED TO USE FLOUR?? Thanks much. > > > > > > Melody, this puzzles me. Guest guest
Hi. Got some more flour questions. One would think I would know this but my mama never taught me any of this so I would do what all ladies used to do, go to the store and buy white flour. UNTIL I GOT DIABETES. Then that went out the window. I was just on the internet reading about this kind of flour and that kind of flour and I happened upon Oat flour. I said " what the heck is oat flour? " and the description was " take one and one half cup of oats, and grind and that will make one cup of oat flour " I have LOTS of oats in my house. I have made oatmeal cookies, made Alan oatmeal (which he no longer eats because he likes other things). But I have a big back of oats in my house. It says " Quick cooked Oats " and on the side it indicates " one half cup has 24 grams of carbs " I don't buy white flour, but I am going to go online and do some digging. Do you think if I pulverize these oats, I can use this as flour. Is this high glycemic or not? thanks much Gosh, the stuff I'm learning is mind boggling. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Melody, this puzzles me. Quiona smells and tastes great. Here is a hint. Guest guest
Hi. I think I have EW to thank for this. I picked his brain about how to store my sprouting seeds and I made videos, and he looked at what I did, then I went one step further and changed a whole spare room into a storage room with shelving and put all my stuff in my LockNLock containers, and my Oso Fresh Containers. For example, any pasta I had, well I took them all out of what they were in and put them in LockNLock's and labeled everything. And I have one complete shelf dedicated to my seeds. All sealed nice and tight. Then I have another shelf just for my vitamins. Extremely easy to reach and to see where everything is. It's way better than keeping stuff in kitchen cabinets. I just walk into the spare room and when I want something, it's right in front of me. But in my kitchen, I have my sprouting shelf (with the greening up lamp). I like neat and organized. I watched one of those hoarding shows and I said " oh my goodness " I mean, REALLY!!!!! People actually save stuff YEARS past the expiration date and they can't even find their kitchen table. Guest guest
LOL LOL. I watched that video last week, walked to my GNC and demanded Black sunflower seeds. They didn't know what I was talking about. I LOVED the music. I am now a subscriber. thanks much. Can't wait to see the other videos. I'm just lucky today Alan is watching all the episodes of The Kennedys that I taped and I get to use the computer. lol > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Melody, this puzzles me. Guest guest
Yes, you can make very nice oat flour from oatmeal. I have a cookbook from years ago that Quaker put out and that is where I first heard about it. I used to use my Kitchenaid blender, but switched to the Vitamix for grinding it. I have oat groats that I do in the Whisper Mill, but I keep the Vitamix out and use it for smaller amounts of oat flour made from the oatmeal. Make sense? Enjoy, Beverly Texas Subject: Re: quinoa taste To: sproutpeople Date: Sunday, April 17, 2011, 3:23 PM Hi. Got some more flour questions. Guest guest
Melody, Sproutpeople has black oil sunflower seeds if you can't find them in walking distance. I've grown them on grow-pads, in trays without any soil or medium, and in trays with a bit of soil. They're very forgiving and they're great sprouts for non-sprout people (like your husband) -- they're tall, fat, crunchy. Molly > > Mel, you need to ask for Black Oil sunflower seeds.
