I have finally had success sprouting garbanzos.I had given up on them because

everytime I tried to sprout them, they would get gross and moldy. And this was

no matter how I tried--sprout garden, easy sprout, mason jar. I used garbanzos

from the grocery store (bad choice--they aren't organic either), organic

garbanzos from the health food store (horrible), but I don't think I ever bought

them from sproutpeople or one of the other sprout companies.(a significant

factor it seems).

I recently got a pound of Rita's bean mix when I bought another Easy Sprouter

(for sprouting my bird's mixes). The mix came free with the purchase.

Rita's Bean Mix has at least three kinds of lentils, garbanzos, adzukis, mung, a

little wheat, and little fenugreek, and I am sure a few other things that I am

forgetting.I put about a 1/4 cup in one of my Sprout Garden trays and to my

utter surprise the garbanzos are sprouting beautifully--no funny smell, no mold,

nothing gross. So I am going to put garbanzos on my sprout supply shopping list

and only buy them from sproutpeople or something. I am guessing they are a more

delicate bean and if they are old or not organic they won't sprout.I know a few

other folks have had trouble with sprouting them, so I thought I would share

this most recent development.:) marion

I got some of those last weekend and plan to sprout them as well. I

definitely hope they do well and will keep you posted for sure. Now that

I've heard your past experiences, I'm rather wary about sprouting them but

hadn't planned on cooking them, so sprouting it is! (At least to start with

and if things go downhill, I'll need to investigate other uses/preparations

for them.)

Thea,You may have success your first time around! I hope so.I am so thrilled

with the way this batch is sprouting. I am planning a Middle Eastern menu for

Spring/Easter Dinner and think I will incorporate some sprouted garbanzos.:)

Until we have the courage to recognize cruelty for what it is--whether its

victim is human or animal--we cannot expect things to be much better in this

world... We cannot have peace among men whose hearts delight in killing any

living creature. By every act that glorifies or even tolerates such moronic

delight in killing we set back the progress of humanity.
