a,

I've delurked to tell you how much I liked your web

site. It is neat to " get to know you " a little

better. If you and are into historical sites,

you should come down to my area (in Southern

land)to see some places before you move. There is

St. 's City which is the first settlement in

land and its first capital. They have a lot of

building and framework of buildings. They also have a

settlement area very close to there with people

dressed in period clothing role playing. Also in this

area is a monument to the Confederate POWs and a small

Civil War museum (those are at Point Lookout).

The Civil War stuff is very small, and the stuff at

St. 's City is small compared to the town

area. I still think it would be a nice day trip if

you like this kind of thing. Let me know if you'd

like more info (kerriellen@...).

Thanks. Yeah I know. The buttons are just temporary. My button creator (which

I loved) just stopped working and so I had to download a cheesy version.

If anyone knows of a good button creator...I need suggestions!!! Thanks for

checking it out!!!!

Kerri,

Thanks so much for your post! Yes, and I would love to explore land

more before we move. Unfortunately he has very few free weekends. If we don't

get to see much of land before we move I don't doubt that we will travel

back at some point to see it.

I think our next big weekend will be Richmond. Since we are both political

buffs as well as history buffs we are required to check out the state

capitol;-) I told about your post and he says that your town sounds

" way cool " and we will have to put it on our travel to-do list. We want to go

to Gettysburg sometime in July for the reenactment but don't want to stay

there the whole time because of the crowds, so maybe we can do the two at

once. hmmmmmm. And if we bring costumes we get double our monies worth. Maybe

I need to grow my hair out more so I can do spiral curls and classic

updoes...hee heee.

Thank you for looking at my site. I will be constantly updating it as it

helps keep me sane.

a :-)

a,

Maybe can work a trip down here with something

work related. I work at the Naval Air Warfare Center

in Patuxent River, MD. We do all of the design,

development, and test for all Navy and Marine Corps

aircraft. That is why I live down here in the

boonies...they didn't want a very populated area to

test aircraft. It has grown a bit in the last couple

of years since they consolidated bases. They brought

people here from Pennsylvania and D.C. (Crystal City).

I don't know how into a/c you and he are, but on the

Saturday of Memorial Day weekend we are having our

airshow on base (including the Blue Angels). The base

is only about 15-20 minutes from St. 's City.

However you use your free time, I hope you have fun

and see some interesting stuff. If you are headed to

Richmond, you won't be too far from Yorktown and

town (I think). They are neat too.

Kerri

P.S. How did you learn how to make a site? I want to

make a site for my Toastmasters club, but I don't have

the time to learn and don't have the money to buy

Microsoft Front Page.

Kerri,

Ack I almost typed in your full response and then somehow I lost it. Oh well,

I'll try again.

is not in the situation to pick his own business travel. As you know the

military is a bit different. Many times they travel in large groups with heavy

equipment lol. But seriously, he probably would want to see the warfare center

on his own time. Memorial Day weekend is out as his Dad and brother will be here

for a visit and they have several baseball games planned (Its also our first

wedding anniversary grumble grumble grumble which obviously will have to be

celebrated later)

spent the night last night and left at 3:30AM this morning. I wont see him

till Thursday night and only for about four hours as he sleeps, eats and gets me

to wash his clothes. Then I won't see him again till Saturday night. That is our

typical schedule right now. When he is home on the weekend he is too usually

exhausted to go anywhere. We haven't traveled much at all since his training

began (we use to go somewhere every other weekend). I haven't even gotten him to

church since the move, maybe even our wedding (more grumbling).

I ALMOST joined Toastmasters. I majored in Speech and Government, did a lot of

public speaking because of my involvement in politics and did a little bit of

speech coaching and writing for candidates and office holders. However, Austin

Toastmasters was VERY pricey. I had access to the materials already because of

my Dad, so I decided to put it on the back burner. Now I am not working, so my

most public speeches are to the cats over tuna.

As for your webpage. I will post some advice here as I know others might be

interested in getting one up. Feel free to e-mail me though with questions etc.

GalofGOP@...

First off, you will want to start with a few practice web pages for yourself.

Whenever you try the real first you just get frustrated. Basic HTML is pretty

easy to pick up on, expecially if you are having fun with it.

For free web hosting for your practice sites (but with a long name) try

www.truepath.com They are VERY easy to work with.

Next you'll need to download a couple different html editors in order to

practice. They also have tutoring programs. A few good ones are:

Hot Dog (only a 30 day trial) available at www.Sausage.com and

Eversoft 1stpage I believe at www.eversoft.com/1stpage/

You'll definitly want to pick up a reference manual to help you. A good begginer

book is HTML for Dummies, when you get the hang of that get something meatier

like Web Publishing with HTML 4 in 21 days. (you can probably find these at the

library to start of with)

I put up my first webpage about 5 years ago in 3 days. It was VERY simple but

still fun. http://members.truepath.com/StarboardSide/1.html

You can also make your own buttons by downloading a button creator. Not the best

one I've seen, but free is Button artist I blieve at www.buttonartist.com you

can also check twocows.com for free web design goodies. Www.free,com has some

free gifs, jpegs, animations etc. to get you started on your practice run. When

its time to do the real thing, look at the websites of other Toastmasters groups

if they have a few icons you want to borrow...e-mail them and ask them!

Good luck!
