Guest guest
Hi ; You find broccoli sprouts SPICY??? I have NEVER found that to be so. Now radish sprouts, or cabbage sprouts or mustard seed sprouts, NOW THOSE ARE SPICY. But broccoli sprouts?? Maybe you bought a different kind than I got? I make a mixture. (I " ve never just eaten broccoli sprouts). I mix radish, fenugreek and broccoli (and when I had the Alfalfa seeds in my house, I just added them and I sprouted them all together) I make a lovely bunch of sprouts and I use them as the basis for my salads. Never had a problem with texture or taste or anything. with a splash of extra virgin olive oil, some salt and pepper, some fresh cherry tomatoes, some sliced black olives, a slice or two of red onions, well this salad is the most colorful salad I have ever eaten. I believe I have a video up on my sprouting channel. But broccoli sprouts being spicy?? That's a new one on me. I find that most people who do not like it have either tried an inferior brand or used to much. A light hand is a necessity with stevia. That being said I do not use it for everything , mostly my herbal teas and my occasional carbonated water. Hmmm...I don't consider broccoli sprouts spicey. Maybe you got radishes instead of broccoli by mistake. Try mixing them with as much of a mild seed like alfalfa or clover till you get used to them.Or mix them into salads that contain lots of other ingredients and a strongly flavored dressing. Guest guest
Lorri, Broccoli sprouts in a strong salad dressing is an excellent suggestion. I dip mine in straight vinegar all the time-not because I don't like their taste but because I like vinegar I have to look into the carbonated water thing because last night I wanted something fizzy and I tasted some soda-yuck! A little fizzy water with lemon juice would have been good so I am off to research this n >
Guest guest
Funny, when I first ate my broccoli sprouts I thought they tasted like hot radishes! Radishes are way to spicy for me! I got my seeds from " the sprout house " . I wonder if they were mislabeled? I will sprout a new batch and grow them to leaf. I will let you know if they really are broccoli or mislabeled radishes. The pink kale I got at the same time has very little pink. The Red Russian kale I grow in the garden shows more color as a sprout. I assumed the " pink kale " was just a nother name for the Red Russian. Not that it matters, just an observation. I'll try mixing some with good sprouts, if nothing else the chickens will enjoy them! > Hi ; > > You find broccoli sprouts SPICY??? I have NEVER found that to be so. I too love vinegar. So much so that my cabinet looks like a am a vinegar collector! I like the basics like Braggs apple cider, brown rice vinegar,Ume plum and basalmic. But I also like Cuisine Perel vinegars...like Black Fig or Orange or well all of their vinegars. Pricey but you use so little and they give so much flavor. As I have said before I love my Soda stream. I do not drink a lot of carbonated water but like you say sometimes its nice to have something fizzy. My fav is to mix it with a little Pom , but a little of any juice is good. I have used flavor essences and drops too with a bit of stevia when I want it sweet. Guest guest
I have tried stevia in very small amounts. It is not the sweetness I find yucky, but the after taste that lingers for hours!!! It gives me a gag reflex :-( Just one of my personality quirks I guess! Good thing I can make and eat maple syrup! >

Guest guest
I am sorry you do not like broccoli sprouts. To me they are so refreshing, and a real joy. Even a squimish grand-daugther gobbles them up. Perhaps because you have so many allergies, your taste buds have a heightened sensitivity? I hope you find what you are looking for in a natural sweetener. Phyllis
Guest guest
, If you use a purified extract of stevia there shouldn't be any aftertaste. It is a question of the relative percentages of stevioside and rebaudioside, and the type I use is (for me at any rate) nothing but sweet: it's distributed by NuNaturals, and though I'm in London you should be able to get it as it's an American firm. (www.nunaturals.com) The other possibility is that you're using too much. Guest guest
EW, where in So Cal are you? I'm in La Mesa (just east of San Diego). The only Sprouts I know of is in El Cajon. Here in La Mesa we have a Henrys market. Did not know about the change to Sprouts. Will welcome it if that's the case! I've just become used to calling the market Henrys, since it used to be Boney's. Whole Foods is more of a drive than I care to make most days.  Glad to know about the Stevia, too. I've been getting the Sweet Leaf Vanilla Creme, which I like a lot. But I'm hoping I have success growing the stevia I bought from blackbird naturals.  Thanks for all your great contributions to this group!  Peggy To: sproutpeople Sent: Monday, April 18, 2011 11:49 AM Subject: Re: Stevia  WOW! Guest guest
I don't remember what type of stevia I tried. It was store bought so I assumed that was why I didn't like it. ( we grow most of our own food and find store bought food to be far less tasty!) So I grew my own and still did not like it! I tried a peice of leaf that was about the size of a single letter on this e-mail, and if was still yucky! Must be that ratio thing you were talking about. No one else in my family likes it either. Thanks for the tip though! Maybe I'll develop a taste for it when I get really really old! > > Re: Stevia > > , > If you use a purified extract of stevia there shouldn't be any aftertaste. Guest guest
Park (E9): my (tiny) back garden borders the park. I lived in Spain for a few years but am not sorry to be back here with the NHS: it is quite beyond us all that so many Americans are fighting it tooth and nail. Having to worry whether you can afford medical treatment before you ask for it is an appalling burden which I don't think anyone should have to bear. Subject: Re: Stevia To: sproutpeople Date: Monday, April 18, 2011, 2:49 PM  WOW! London. That's great. Here in SoCal there is a grocery companu called 'Sprouts', I buy NuNaturals there. BTW, Sprouts has just bought Hernys Farm Markets from Smart and Final and will start changing the name to Sprouts right away. If you have a Henrys near you, check it out. ew Re: Stevia , If you use a purified extract of stevia there shouldn't be any aftertaste. It is a question of the relative percentages of stevioside and rebaudioside, and the type I use is (for me at any rate) nothing but sweet: it's distributed by NuNaturals, and though I'm in London you should be able to get it as it's an American firm. (www.nunaturals.com ) The other possibility is that you're using too much. Mike _ MARKETPLACE Find useful articles and helpful tips on living with Fibromyalgia. Guest guest
Don't think they exist here. I get mine off the net using Ebay, which has the cheapest prices on practically everything.
