Guest guest
, I don't know of anything in particular - but I will say you need to check with a pharmacist about any over the counter drugs you use - because the meds my son is on he can not take anything with a decongestant in it. Just make sure that you check with your pharmacist - doctors are not that great about knowing drug interactions especially with over the counter drugs mixed with scripts. Tracey -------------- Original message -------------- Does anyone use OTC allergy medication for a child being treated with medication for OCD? My daughter (16) says claritin does not work (her p- doc last year suggested it) and she does not want something making her tired. She actually has a precription for med to help her sleep (periactin) that treats allergies, but she cannot use it for daytime. She also takes prozac. I will probably need to check with her p-doc, but she wants something right away b/c the allergies are making her miserable. nancy grace
Guest guest
, My son has really bad allergies. We have used non-drowsy Dimetapp (allergy) as well as the non-drowsy Benedryl. We have found that Mucinex has helped him the best. He is also on Prozac. We nended up having to go have him tested with an allergist again. (I'd had it done when he was 4 and he tested negative for everything but dust!) He ended up being off the chart for tree and grass and even tested positive for dog and cat-which we've had all these years! Before he started shots, the allergist started him on nasal sprays daily. That may be the way to go, too, if you don't want to do shots.... Melinda, Mom to , 15,
Guest guest
Hi, . We were just at the doctor's office two days ago. Our son is coping with some ongoing itching. He is taking Celexa and he takes Melatonin to sleep. She recommended trying Zyrtec, which is now over the counter, because regular Claritin (not Claritin D) seemed to cause him to feel anxious. Where your daughter takes an allergy med at night though, I'm not sure how that would factor in. Whenever I have a question about mixing drugs, I call a pharmacist. They are really good about looking things up to make sure there is no problems. I do remember (years ago), Josh was taking Claritin and Benadryl (to help him sleep), daily. The doctor wanted him to take the Claritin in the morning apart from the Benadryl at night. I remember her saying he should not take them together, at the same time, but rather have a number of hours in between. Guest guest
Thanks for that tip. My daughter does not take it (periactin) regularly but only as needed, since it is prescribed primarily to help her sleep, but if she took it regularly, then maybe it would conistently help her allergies. Also to others thanks for suggestion to check with pharmacist, I tend to forget that resource. nancy grace > > > > Does anyone use OTC allergy medication for a child being treated with > > medication for OCD? Guest guest
My daugher takes Reactine (which, in Canada, is the same product as Zyrtec - cetirizine hydrochloride), and has for a number of years now due to eczema from seasonal allergies (pretty much spring through end of summer). It seems to help. It has been over the counter for many years here. I take it myself and started using it when it was still prescription. It is non-drowsy and tackles all types of allergic reactions well. > > > > Does anyone use OTC allergy medication for a child being treated with > > medication for OCD? Guest guest
, My younger son takes Singular and Claritin daily. No OCD meds though. He's never had any sleepiness from either the Singular nor Claritin. Lately, he has needed the addition of Nasonex and occasionally, an inhaler. The Nasonex has really helped him. He also has mild asthma on top of allergies. allergies/hay fever med? Does anyone use OTC allergy medication for a child being treated with medication for OCD?
