Guest guest
This is what we need; get patients to understand that it is in their best interest that we are allowed to do our jobs. Guest guest
I am afraid I don't meet all the requirements :(If we listed all the items in the article, what would be the minimum number of items to " qualify " ?(I am just afraid to jump off my little hamster wheel!) -- Pedro Ballester, M.D.Warren, OH

Guest guest
Pedro and others,As far as I know, there is no specific requirements that determine whether a medical practice is an Ideal Medical Practice. From Gordon and Wasson's Sept 2007 article in Family Practice Management, they define an IMP as "a practice model designed to enhance doctor-patient relationships, increase face-to-face time between doctors and patients, reduce physician workloads, instill patients with a sense of responsibility for their health and cut wasted dollars from the entire system".Note that with this definition, there are features that IMPs may include but do not require:• Open access scheduling• 24/7 access by cellphone• E-mail access• Online scheduling• Smaller patient panels• e-Prescriptions• Home visits• In-patient care• Performance data via How's Your Health• Web portals• Telephone coachingNote also that the following are NOT part of the IMP definition:• Solo practice• Office size• Primary care physicians• No staff• EMRs• Homemade exam tables and patient gowns• Source of payment (cash, insurance, Medicare, retainer fee, chickens)And even physicians aren't necessarily part of the definition seeing as NPs and DCs and dentists can have successful IMPs, too. So you may be more IMPy than you realize. Besides, Pedro, you are already on the IMP Map. But do yourself a favor and make yourself a real practice web site. May I suggest the free Weebly.com? No financial interest.
