When I was checked last year for COPD, they did not draw arterial blood on me. This may be a doctor's order, but the tech that did my testing said not one word about a blood draw and neither did my dr. Say prayers for me please everyone. My asthma is close to going off. I went to the dr this morning and I am a bit tight but not too bad yet. I do have a sinus infection and ragweed is in bloom here.Take care all,From: sarah martin

I wasn't aware of the difficulty in getting a pediatric PFT. They are doing the full test @ 2pm today at the hosp. I say finally because trying to get info for his asthma has been like pulling teeth. I know there is more to treating him than just shoving albuterol at it when he starts wheezing, but I guess I'm not asking the the right questions. It should be possible to to a Peak flow meter on children that young but they haven't shown me or told me how to do it. Very frustrated. He couldn't get dental work done in May because of the asthma. I didn't realize they would do a blood pull too, crap, that in itself will set off an attack with him (pounding head on desk in frustration) .

My kids don't have any asthma issues, but I have read some articles on it. Testing and pft's are very unreliable in young kids. Part of it is that they don't fully understand until they get a little older what is being asked of them. If you want to use a peak flow meter with him I would invest in the digital Microlife meter from amazon.com. They are very easy to use and come with good instructions. Basically just turn it on, have him breathe in deeply and blow as hard as he can. Do this three times and the meter will keep the highest of the three. Then turn it off. You can write the numbers down or use a tracking program to track his trends. They are probably not doing the artery blood draw on a five year old. That isn't part of a regular spirometry test. They only do that for certain diagnostics & unless he is really in trouble they won't do it on a young child because it can be too painful. ROFL! We have been dealing with all kinds of stuff and I constantly find this group to be a huge source of knowledge and support. I know that I will learn something on the group and ask my doc about it. He is amazed at my knowledge which is a direct tribute to this group. We are happy to help. Just remember though, we are not doctors and asthma is very different for each person. So be sure to keep your doc in the loop and never mess with his meds without checking with the doc first. Hugs! Thank you, he's been seeing a pulmonologist since last year was dx'd the year before that and it takes a group on Yahoo to tell me what I need to know to deal with this. Tell me again why I am paying doctors?

I bet that's what it is. My granddaughter is sneezing quite a bit too. We're giving her zyrtec right now. We're hanging in though. I'm beginning to feel a bit better, as the antibiotics kick in. To: asthma Sent: Tuesday, August 25, 2009 6:28:15 PMSubject: Re: Re: Finally

  • 2 years later...

10 years ago when I had my surgery, people would say gastric bypass when they

were talking about RNY. I remember distinguishing between the two types of

surgery, and the struggle to get the DS approved. Today, 10 years later, I see

Dr. Oz doing a demonstration of how the " gastric bypass " works and the surgery

he shows is the DS!!! Yeah! Finally.
