One thing stuck out in your message and that was Ativan. Ativan can

cause more agitation and worsen all LBD symptoms. Most people on this

board will tell you to stay away from Ativan. At first it can seem to

help, but it is usually detrimental in the end. Many believe that it

did permanent damage to their LO.

My Mother also has agitation problems and we found that Aricept made

them worse, but Exelon has helped a great deal. We also have her on

Seroquel and have worked it up to a high dose. She also takes an

antidepressant. We have just started her on Namenda, too early to tell

if it helps.

Please be cautious with Ativan and Haldol.

Just my 2 cents on Ativan. My father was put on ativan because he

would pick up plants and chairs. He was very mobile. Ativan dopes them

right up and I firmly believe it is the cause of Dad's fall. If your

LO is still mobile and on Ativan for agitation, insist on them being

taken off. List it as a drug allergy if you have to. Those NH people

will try to slip an Ativan whereever possible because it makes THEIR

job easier. Its not for the patients benefit!!!

Ativan put my Dad in a stupor like state for days...

But that was nothing compared to Haldol which put him in a stupor like

state for nearly a month. SO bad - he needed a feeding tube for meds/

water and food !

I'm definitely one of those that feel that these drugs were the beginning

of the end for my Dad.

I second your comments all the way!! I remember when I

told the NH I was taking my dad off the Ativan. They threw

a FIT! Told me dad NEEDED it for his agitation and I replied

that dad is agitated BECAUSE of the Ativan. They fought me

to the point they called an emergency meeting that had many

staff members including some from corporate. Me against

them, it was terrible but I stood my ground. As I had said in

a reply to Lolly, the damage had already been done though.

My dad passed away about 7 months after I had him taken

off the Ativan...grrrrrrhhhhh!!!

Lolly,

I believe that the others have answered why not to use Ativan. With my

Mother it added to her agitation and the next day after taking it, she

would be generally out of it and would drool. The Aricept made my

Mother very agitated while the Exelon (an older Alzheimer's drug)

helped her be calmer as well as improving her memory. We started

taking my Mother to a Geriatric Psychiatrist and he has helped us get

right mix of drugs to help my Mother be calmer.

Hello everyone,

I have not posted in ages. I do read most of the emails though. Sorry to

hear about Jerry Lamb. He really helped me and I tried to continue the group

after he moved to AZ 2 years ago. I had my DS on Sept 19, 2006. Tummy tuck,

hernia repair and breast lift on June 13, 2008. I just found out last month

I am pregnant with child number 4 last month. I have 3 daughter. Their ages

are 20, 17 and 11. This baby is a COMPLETE surprise. I am 43 and was not

desiring or wanting more, but I will be having this one and I hope before

Halloween.

My weight was about 250 and was down to 135 for the most part. I am 143

now but also 15 weeks pregnant. I too am in College. I go to Folsom . I

would love to meet you sometime. I wish there was a support group around. I

have more then my share of tummy bloating and really trying to watch what I

eat does not help or make a difference. I have no carbonation and stay away

from lactose as well. I am at a lost cause my stomach is in pain quite often
