Guest guest
Hi Colin, Glad you and Elaine had a nice vacation as we call it in the States. About the vision tests, I would suggest Elaine be examined by a medical doctor who specializes in the eyes. Most eyeglass dispensers will also check for possible glaucoma, but they don't dilate the eye to examine the optic nerve etc. It would be important to mention the sarcoidosis to the doctor so he can search for any granulomas in the eye.Best regards to Elaine! Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your group.I am 33, and have just been told I have allergy induced asthma. I had breathing issues for over a year...felt like sandpaper in my chest all the time. Really hard time breathing in heavy, humid air...go figure, I work in my greenhouse all the time...wonder where I am around that air LOL....anyway, I also have developed allergies to my rabbits as well as always having a bit of an allergy to pollen and cut grass.I went to the dr last april, and he said severe allergies, put me on Zyrtec and mucinex daily. I went for a year on those daily. I got a bit better, but still could not breathe for over a year. I went back to him 3 weeks ago after I was coughing so much I pulled all the muscles in my right side. could not move it hurt so bad. He said allergy induced asthma. Sent me home with a pain killer, muscle relaxer and an albuterol inhaler. Oh boy could I breathe again!! I took the meds for like 3 days but the relaxer knocked me on my butt so I didn't take it....they were both "as needed" directions. No more sandpaper feeling but in the humid hot air I really can't breathe. I was so bad yesterday! still take zyrtec as directed but nothing else as far as pills. I am down to needing my inhaler once every 2 or 3 days which i am happy about. Ok, so after that long history, the question that brought me to this group is the pains in my right side taht seem to come and go with how well i am breathing. if I am in the hot air, my whole right side upper body hurts like someone knocked the wind out of me, or I pulled all the muscles. But when i am outside in the nice cool air, it is just fine....really a weird feeling to have a "pulled muscle" feeling that leaves so quickly. I still have a bit of a problem laying flat on my back though no matter how I am breathing as it still hurts a bit when i do that.Any thoughts? any way I can get rid of that? any explination on why it happens? I am very new to this and would appreciate any help you guys may be able to give methanks!!
Guest guest
Welcome . You will find this to be a very good group. It sounds like you should be on a controller medication - Advair and Symbicort are the most common, but there are a lot of different ones out there. Is your allergist an asthma specialist? It doesn't sound like it or he/she would have prescribed a controller. The albuterol is generally used as a rescue inhaler. It is not really intended to "control" your asthma and has a lot of side effects (jitteryness, increased heart rate, etc.). I would seek out an asthma specialist or pulmonologist. As far as the pain. Is it in your side or lung region. When my asthma is acting up I will have very sharp pains in the lower lobes of my lungs that will radiate upwards through my chest and into my neck and jaw as the attack gets worse. Then as my lungs open back up the pain will go away. However, until you are more familiar with your symptoms, any type of chest pain even in combination with an asthma attack is a reason to go to the ER right away as an asthma attack can put stress on your heart. Not trying to be a scaremonger, but it is not something to casually play with. It can be very serious. Hope I've helped some.MadelineSubject: HelloTo: asthma Date: Monday, March 30, 2009, 1:09 PM HI everyone. I am , Looks like I am not the only new one to the group....but thought I'd introduce myself. Guest guest
I actually have only seen my family dr. I went about this asthma thing probablly the wrong way....but my sister has had it for years. She told me her dr told her to get a primatine mist inhaler to use in emergencies when she didn't have her alburerol one. it is OTC. I asked a nurse friend of mine, and she said it would not hurt me and may help me, so I got one, took it twice and felt a ton better. I then went to my dr with this info. and since he has done chest x rays and said my lungs look great, it is probablly the asthma. he had me on a beta blocker for the chest pains a year ago, as they found nothing wrong with my heart. I have APS, and have had it for years....I found out because it happened to be the cause of my 3 miscarriages, so they have me on baby asprin and the dr thought with my high pulse anyway...I have always had a high one, they treated my pain as a physical form of anxiety....basically the over production of adrenaline was causing the pain but not "hurting" me...the beta blocker worked to take way the pain, and yes they have determined there is nothing wrong with my heart. He took me off of it a few weeks ago when he began to think the asthma and stress of my lungs was causing the pain.... I have kept careful track of my pains, and hurts, and breathing over the past few weeks. I get the pain when I can't breathe well. the heavy air does quite a number on me. I have the allergy thing under control, so it is more environment that sets me off. The pain starts right below my right side of my chest and wraps around my right side about mid section of my upper body. I really think it is triggered by the asthma. I just don't know how to get rid of it and really don't want to put up with it every time I have a small attack. Ideas on how to ease the pain? I had talked to my sister about a controller instead of a rescue method. She uses a controler that is just like alburerol but it is made to take once in the morning and once at night and it gets it under control and then she keeps the other for rescue. I am feeling a ton better and haven't touched my inhaler since saturday at 1 pm. And that was the first time since tuesday at 3 pm....so I think i pretty much have it under control with the alburerol, if i can get rid of this chest pain. It is linked to this asthma thing, just need to figure out how to get it under control too. Oh, and the reason I am not going to the dr right now is he wont' answer questions without me going to see him....I did call him on tuesday of last week, and they said I may need a controller, but give it a bit more time as I had issues for a whole year and it takes more than 2 weeks to undo a year of issues. wouldn't you know, the next day I wasnt' using my inhaler at all LOL but the thing they said was they don't see any issues with my chest pain and it is nothing serious as per the tests but they won't tell me how to fix it until I give them another co pay basically thanks for your advise !! Guest guest
HI ... Welcome to the group. Regarding your right side pains...it could be that your muscles on that side still arent completely healed from your coughing fits. Another possibility is that its possible that one lung reacts more to your triggers than the other...I dont know if that actually happens or not, but its a thought that entered into my head. Anyway, theres lots of folks here who have a lot of knowledge...so dont be afraid to ask questions!! Ann A Good Credit Score is 700 or Above. See yours in just 2 easy steps! Guest guest
, Are you taking any of the nedocromil or cromolyn medications? (Intal, Tilade, etc.) Are you taking any vitamin supplements? Guest guest
I would personally suggest that you seriously consider some sort of daily controller med. The problem with relying on a rescue inhaler to keep things in check is that by the time you realize you need it, you are out of control...and thats not a good thing. And, rescue inhalers are a short term solution...which may also explain why you still have the pain in your side. You might see it go away with a good controller medication. If you have allergies, a good controller med that is out there is singulair...it works for both asthma and allergies. For what its worth, primatene mist is not a good thing for you either...it either is discontinued or it will be shortly but it can be dangerous and Im surprised that someone in the medical field would say it cant hurt you. As an extreme last resort it might be ok...but its not something I would want to rely on. Guest guest
Thanks for the welcome, Ellen! I'm just beginning this process. I was originally told by my doctors that gastric bypass was the way to go, so I began researching it. I discovered options not presented by the doctors, and I believe the DS is the correct surgery for me. I want to thoroughly understand it, and potential complications, and reading posts by WLS veterans is extremely valuable. So thank you for letting me in! I appreciate it. P.S. I don't do Facebook yet, but will keep your other group in mind. > > Hello ... Welcome to our group. You are welcome to comment or ask > questions.
